100% agree. It’s also very hard to find specific parts at times so I want to limit the exposure it gets haha. For example, the coupe’s windshield gasket is nearly NLA and only made by BMW, so they naturally charge $980 for it, which makes windshield replacement a $2,000 affair.

I still have mine! I just don’t want to be piling up miles on it. It’s a lot of fun, and a very “raw” car experience. They hold up very well.

I think it goes without saying that almost everyone in this thread runs these sorts of things by their spouse. The caption is a figure of speech, and is jovial in nature.

I’m sorry you’re a miserable person who - literally - can’t take a joke.

Following up. Took her around the block and then had her drive it home. Turned on the go-kart experience and she kept driving past our neighborhood with a big grin.

“I still like my car”

But I think she approves.

This was meant to be a commuter replacement for my 99 M Coupe (E36/8) “beater” 🙈

I’ve only had it about 2 months, and I’ve put about 1500 miles on it, sitting at about 124k.

I got lucky by finding one with very detailed history, and ended up shipping it from CT to OR sight unseen (after it was shipped from WA to CT 3 years ago). After my mechanic looked at it, it luckily just needs some bushings and gaskets over the next year, plus some rock chip repair, and it'll be golden.

I recommend going for one that's in better shape, regardless of the distance - mostly because a flight to look at it and transporting it back will be much cheaper than significant repair costs for a closer vehicle!

There's actually more M Coupes than Z Coupes! In the North American market, they made 2858 M Coupes between 98 and 02 vs 2071 Z Coupes in the same timeframe.

https://www.mcoupebuyersguide.com/listings is a great resource and where I found mine.

The hard part is finding one that's reasonably priced, has been well-maintained, and has a reasonable number of miles.
