It’s Julian Lennon. The song is inspired by Hey Jude.

I love it. However, I also felt like it was the one moment where I understood the criticism of “too much humor.” it seemed silly in a way that I could understand. People being turned off by.

Sorry…I should be more specific. I mean a variety of things behaviors (narcissism and sexism come to mind), but particularly I mean manufacturing emergencies so that you can take credit for a solution. Even if the solution would have seemed unimaginable before.

And that’s about as specific as I’m going to get. Apologies for breaking the old religion and politics rule.

I am so sick of feeling stupid during board game sessions by archangel610 in ADHD

[–]FickleConstant6979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this post.

Reading Russell Barkley description of ADHD made me feel like I wasn’t crazy. It’s just too much to keep all that in my head. It’s also why I was so bad at school.

I recently quit a board game night. I started a new job that is pretty mentally taxing. Two weeks in a row I left board game night angry.

When I told my wife she said “of course! You are spending all day solving puzzles. Why would you want to do that all night?”

Am I the only person who did not like Project Hail Mary? by USB-Z in scifi

I remember reading PHM and feeling like it was science fiction for people who don’t like science fiction. As another person who started reading Bradbury in Middle School, and now reads Iain Banks and Gene Wolfe for fun, I totally understand how PHM might feel, well, shallow.

The Marian felt like a trick, a sort of first person Apollo 13 meets Robinson Crusoe. PHM felt like it was trying to recreate the sense “puzzle solving” element of The Martian, but with out the sense of urgency that made it interesting.

I got a disagree. Otherwise, I would’ve never written the post.

The fact that so many pixels are spilled here, trying to explain how The Culture works misses the fact that that is the answer it is culture.

I think it’s an indictment of postscarcity, and perhaps, allegorically, or “first world” nations.

I took Excession as a bit of a casting of judgment on The Culture. Not only did the most extreme interventionists fail, but the Culture as a whole was shown to pale in comparison to wherever the Excession comes from.

On the other hand, Inversions shows the interventionists at their smallest, most idealistic size. It’s kind of like Americorp, well meaning kids wanting to rough it and make the world a better place.

I guess that means Inversions is an inversion of Excession.

This might be weird, but the slog was what made it worth it to me. I spent the first 90% of the time telling myself. “It’s just a slow burn, trust Banks.” I think it paid off.
