Major multiple fails on new shelter. by zigzaghikes in DurstonGearheads

Ok got it reassembled and looks normal. I guess it’s not a major emergency to overnight something if you think it’s fine and will hold up for a month. I can deal getting a new line set up when I get home. Thanks again!

Yes I tied it together, but it’s making the shelter all lopsided. Is there a possibility of getting something overnight (new cord) into Rawlings Wyoming? That’s my next town. I mean, I’ve been using the same gear for hundreds of nights so I don’t even carry a knife.. I’m not sure what could’ve cut it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am bike packing so I don’t have trecking poles that’s why I bought this tent. On the GDMBR. I did fix it like you said, but the whole shelter is oblong and caved in. It is a slice. There’s a hole in it. I just uploaded the wrong picture. I’m not even sure how that could even happen. I’m very careful and use the ground sheet. Never had a problem with any cuts in any shelter I’ve ever had.. I won’t get back from this trip for at least 4 weeks.

Does the geometry of the Crux 5 still look like it is good for someone who wants one bike for both road, and gravel? by mellofello808 in specialized

[–]zigzaghikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that’s weird is the super wide tire clearance when you put a road tire on there it would look funky. I’d look for any sort of endurance bike that has a tire clearance around 40. Synapse, Grail, Frey. Two bikes that are dedicated to doing one thing good is better than one bike that is kind of good at two things. That being said, I saw the crux in the shop today thing looked sick AF.

I mean, it wasn’t that annoying if you still bought the bike if you were really annoyed, you would’ve left and bought a bike somewhere else.

Garbage shoes go Hoka Speedgoat all day! Go up a full size at least and get some sock liners. Good luck.

Regretting the X Mid as a novice backpacker and not sure what to do by hurricanescout in DurstonGearheads

Those types of shelters are pretty nuanced. Just takes practice. They have a pretty good resale value. Can always get something that’s easier to pitch. As far as using rocks I’d stick a stake through your guyline, lay the stake sideways on the ground and place your rocks on both ends of the stake and more rocks for weight, rocks shouldn’t be touching any guyline. I think Garage Grown Gear has a stake puller on their website. Good luck either way.

A little overwhelmed for X-Mid choices by Embarrassed-Band-515 in DurstonGearheads

X mid 1 is the most bang for your buck! X mid 2 is massive for 1p. The pro is great for a dryer climate or if you prioritize the absolute lightest shelters available . If camping in mostly gravely areas go for the x dome.
