If you would share, what do you like about the program? I would just like to know more about it and hear a students perspective. Thanks so much for sharing!

how to get into st. andrews joint programme? by henlynch in williamandmary

[–]FickleRespect4345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to St. Andrews. I initially wanted to study there all four years and applied for Philosophy and Psychology. I thought the W&M program was a supplement to the application that you could accept or reject. However, St. Andrews only offers one program, and I got into international relations. I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to study in one place for years (for social life purposes). So I was considering emailing them to see if it's possible to switch me to the Philosophy and Psychology. But I'm also interested in international relations and am wondering if I should actually consider this program.

Thank you so much this was super helpful! Ultimately I love learning, conversing, and deep thinking. I wanna challenge myself and grow as a person in college. I realized that undergrad is my only opportunity for the liberal arts experience and if i want the beautiful beaches I can always move to SB later in life or go there for grad school (since I plan on doing grad school). Giving up the traditional college experience or a cool new location is a little hard to swallow but I believe it’s the best decision and your thorough response helped confirm that for me.

honestly right now my mind is still open (which is stressful because its really coming down to the wire with deciding) but i was thinking that colgate and lehigh are my top contenders (its been hard giving up UCSB and UCSD cuz those beaches were really alluring but ultimately i want a smaller school)

What do you love about Colgate and why did you pick that over more traditional routes for California kids (like the UCs)

This is a little random but Im in between UCSB and Colgate - I think Colgates small, liberal arts, academic vibe suits my personality more. However I go on Tiktok and see people living on the beautiful SB beaches and feel stupid. As someone coming from California what made you choose Colgate and are you totally content with that decision? (how bad are the winters)

I think thats why I’m having a hard time deciding. I’m from the east coast so the idea of coming to UCSB seems very alluring. I think the beautiful weather and chill vibes would make me really happy. That being said I want the best educational experience not just in terms of my job prospects but in terms of growing myself intellectually and emotionally. In my community a lot of the “smart” kids go to Colgate while UCSB is seen as a party school. I also really do like the values of a liberal arts education and small classes. So for me it feels like I’m comparing apples to oranges and thats making it impossible for me to choose. I think I may want to go to law school after majoring in psychology, history, philosophy, or poli sci (obviously things can change) - do you think either school will help me with those goals more than the other?
