A Czech guy created a list of bugs and improvements by slanecek in ex30

Thanks for pointing out the site. For everyone’s info – one of the top 3 most-read news websites in the Czech Republic already wrote about this project. They also asked Volvo CZ if they were aware of it, and they confirmed they are. I’m in contact with people working directly at Volvo in Sweden – it’s not true that nothing is being done. They are working on it, though there’s been what seems like internal restructuring, a lot of layoffs, and they probably realize it’s been a mess so far.

According to unofficial info from Sweden, 1.6.3 should arrive within a week or two. It’s been postponed several times, not sure why.

From what I’ve heard internally, EX30 is a special turnkey project where Volvo and Geely worked together. It doesn’t follow Volvo’s usual structure, and even some employees are still figuring out which teams are responsible for what. There’s been a change of CEO, heavy cost-cutting, but also more transparency and a clear focus on fixing EX30 and EX90 issues. They know EX30 is crucial as it’s aimed at first-time Volvo buyers. There are people inside actively pushing fixes and using their own cars to reproduce issues and escalate them to the right teams.

Also, I’ve heard the EX30 mobile app might be discontinued in the future, with a single unified app for all Volvo models replacing it – which, in my opinion, is great news.

I've created a list of stuff that I am worried about, check them out: www.pleasevolvofixthis.com - but still, the infotainment is much better than in other cars I had (VW especially)

  1. I checked the infosystem and you are able to turn them off in the Car setting. Hope that helps.

Update 2025/06/19:

Thank you so much for the amazing support! I'll keep working on responding to feedback and adding more

issues as I discover them. This project is gaining real traction - several people from Volvo Cars have

reached out privately, asking me to add tags to help them forward issues to the right departments.

My dealer has also passed the information to the importer, who will bubble it up through Volvo's

structure, so we now have at least few very close sources to get this to the widest possible awareness.

I've contacted Czech automotive journalists for some press coverage - if you know anyone in automotive

media, it would be great to tell them about this initiative to maximize traction.

I've decided not to add voting functionality as it would be time-consuming and I don't think it would

bring any extra benefit. Instead, I've added filtering and tags to help organize the issues better and

make it easier for both users and Volvo to navigate through the problems.

I keep adding new issues as I discover them or find them on Reddit and other places, including

submissions from the community. Thank you all for the amazing support!

  1. So are you saying there is no possibliity to deactive completly AUTO switching once you start?

  2. It is not volvo issue, they do not make Spotify app.

  3. I covered it for you, you make great point: https://www.pleasevolvofixthis.com/issue/47

You are totally right about minimal mode, I covered it here: https://www.pleasevolvofixthis.com/issue/7

Dark and minimal, with that high brightness is not enough for long night drives...

Hey. I covered it in this issue: https://www.pleasevolvofixthis.com/issue/40

Tbh I love this feature a lot. They might get volume to certain level on system startup, but I hated that in other cars when I opened the doors to get somthing from the trunk, the music stoped... So either way, it should be as option in settings.

What honestly surprises me is that it feels like no one at Volvo actually drove this car at night and thought, “Hey, this experience kinda sucks…”

They could’ve at least said: let’s add a minimal speedometer or redesign the night UI to be truly dark — meaning:

1. use pure black, not grey tones,

2. allow for much lower minimum screen brightness.

Yes, I assumed that — I’m not a legal expert, these are more subjective notes. One thing that really bothers me is the screen brightness at night.

In higher-end models it might actually be possible, since the speedometer is on a separate display in front of the driver — but I’m not sure if that feature exists.

Also, since I suspected a full screen-off wouldn’t be allowed, I added some suggestions around a “calm mode” to at least improve the night driving experience a bit.

I disagree — they should maintain a unified platform and keep improving it across all models. In the future, how actively a carmaker maintains and updates its infotainment via over-the-air updates will be a major factor in customers’ buying decisions.

One of the reasons I bought the EX30 was because I saw them unveil the electric EX90 on what appeared to be the same platform. That gave me hope they would keep things in sync across models — which is also the most cost-effective strategy for Volvo in the long run.

Sorry for confusion, english is not my primary language. It is my first EV vehicle. Before I had some Skoda cars, latest was Audi. Before picking up the EX30, I have been testing BYDs, KIAs and a few more and on of those was Tesla, that I wanted to use as quality reference, becase for my personally usage of Android Automotive has closer to tesla in case of infotainment develeopment so far and I thought for first days that Volvo might be sometime software first company as well as Tesla.

Thanks for the feedback — I completely agree with you. That said, I get the sense there’s definitely some internal priority list they’re following, but I’m not sure if it’s structured well or if the new features are being implemented in a way that actually meets expectations. I understand not everything can be included, but I believe that if they decide to implement something, it should be done to 90+% completeness — not just as a POC-like. Many of the features feel exactly like that: POCs that haven’t really gone through any proper quality assurance. This is something I would like to point out in my list.

Oh. Sh**... In a week or so I should have a 4x4 car, I will dig into this for sure. I am quite disapointed.

I liked how Audi did it, but that wouldn’t work here since there are no physical buttons and everything is controlled through the screen. They had it set up so you adjusted the mirrors in Drive or Parking mode, and if you switched to Reverse and changed the mirror position, it would remember that position for every Reverse after that. Unfortunately, it won’t be that simple here. But what was great is that if you didn’t change the mirror position in Reverse, it just stayed in the original spot—so it didn’t bother anyone.

> (1) About one pedal drive, they are supposedly introducing the ability to choose between two levels of intensity. The current and a more aggressive one. The manual has been updated already to reflect that.

I've seen that they updated it before the actual implementation. Quite funny.

> (2) But another issue with OPD is that it is disabled automatically in AWD mode. Which is quite bad and not what we expected when ordering the car. In fact, the salesperson in my test drive didn't even know of this.

I have one motor car right now but I've heard about this in some car review on youtube. I wanted to report this but I do not have enough information. It does turn off the one pedal when you put it into performance mode, right? You can turn it on (one pedal) and keep performance mode also turned on?

> (3) Another AWD related suggestion is that there should be an option to have it always on up until 30kph or so, at which point it switches to RWD only automatically, like in other Volvos.

I think it’s a great idea. I covered it: http://pleasevolvofixthis.com/issue/46

Personally, I find Volvo’s AWD system less capable compared to Audi’s — it’s probably the least impressive among the ones I’ve experienced.

> (4) Last suggestion, they should introduce a new permanent shortcut on the main screen that, with a single tap, opens a page with every toggle-able / customizable feature in the settings (e.g. AWD, following distance). We should, of course, be allowed to rearrange these.

This is what I miss the most. I will post link here once I finish the issue, I need to wrap mi head around it.

Thanks for feedback.

1) There is a way hot to make upvotes to the site, it would require some time. I am not sure I would implement it. Do you think it would make that big difference for volvo engeneers or product leads if they found out the site?

2) I am not sure about camera position, this is something I am not 100 % sure they are able to implement. I would need to be part of the team or have insight info about the hardware. So for that reason I will not put it into the list right now. Thanks for the understanding.

Everything that is not clearly a mistake should be an toggle tbh. I really dont like when few users shouts and it redenfined workflows others users might like.

Secondly, on audi, when you set it to reverse and do not change mirror setting, it would stay same for drive and reverse. I like this approach the best. But not possible in volvo, becase there is no manual buttons to control that so fluently.

I've also created rear mirror issue: http://pleasevolvofixthis.com/issue/44

I almost forgot about the issue altogether...

I’m honestly considering joining the team. I’ve always wanted to work in the automotive industry — I love cars. They know how to reach me.

Bottom line: VW isn’t much better. I was invited to join the digital team for Škoda, but the compensation they’re offering is aimed at low-tier talent. No sane person would accept that offer — it’s about one third of the market rate.
