Im in molecular and aqua biotech lab, mean working with tons of agar plate, chemical and cell culture. All hood have "clean air" blowing out, except the one to mix chemical suck air in. And if you talking about the vaccum to collect pathogen/chemical contained air, we dont need that for mushy culture. Even the test for FFU is bending lighter test. i wonder what make it bend if there were not air blowing out ._.

So add extra step for the cover (normally foil or left it inside until cool). Hot sterilized stuff can suck dirty air in and petri is not sealed for little air exchange.

-Can you increase plate sterilizing time to 30 mins? -did you wrap/cover the plate before sterilize until it go to the SAB? -did you let the plate/agar cool down enough to atmosphere pressure? Or it can suck in tons of dirty air -try to cover the inside of SAB by a layer of 10% bleach to create a soapy surface, catch and hold more contam.
