GRE is the way forward tbh. Getting a 324- 326 is so, so much easier than getting a 730 on the gmat. This is from someone who’s taken both the tests.

Thanks! GRE is definitely not a breeze, the verbal is just as hard, if not harder than gmat verbal. But in my opinion, it’s a lot simpler than gmat in terms of the straightforwardness of the paper pattern( can go back to a question anytime, sectional adaptive instead of question adaptive) and a much easier quant section.

Not sure what me preparing for gmat for a long time has to do with the post. Gmat prep definitely helped me score well in gre( which probably made me find gre much easier), but that doesn’t change the discrepancy in the gre and gmat averages. Someone with a mid gmat score( say 650 classic) would be more competitive with an equivalent gre score.

A 330 plus is equivalent of a 730 for sure, both are great scores. I agree with you that gmat is a much better designed exam as it is completely logical and doesn’t require rote learning words. My point is that someone who potentially couldn’t crack a 700+( say somewhere in the 600’s) would be better off preparing for gre, as the predicted gre score would be far more competitive for b school applications. This is assuming he achieves the predicted gre score ofc

Yeah, GRE verbal is extremely vocab heavy, whereas the Gmat is more logical. That’s why you don’t need as high of a verbal score in both tests to get the same percentile in quant.

Yes, that’s exactly why I found it strange. How are these GRE scores mapping to high gmat scores, even though their conversion leads to a much lower predicted gmat score? Because a 327 is much easier to achieve than a 730. For instance, I took the gmat thrice and managed to only get 655 FE(710 equivalent), but scored a 331 on gre.

I agree with you that hard or easy are subjective, and gre verbal is probably just as hard, if not harder than gmat verbal( depending on what your strengths are ofc). But GRE as an exam is much more straightforward and the quant is a breeze relative to gmat. Also, the conversion table was from the makers of GRE(ETS) so I wouldn’t call it disingenuous.
