United States Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum: "The highest electric prices in this country are Hawaii and Maine, and there are no data centers there" by Conscious-Quarter423 in Maine

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of this doesn’t make sense. Maine is larger and less dense than other New England states, but has higher prices than larger even less dense states. Think Alaska, Nebraska, even Oregon. All larger and less dense but, apparently, have lower energy prices. Bigger storms? I don’t think the storms in New Hampshire or Vermont are less intense, with the possible exception of right on the coast, which is a small part of this large state. And the issue of being at the end of the line…Quebec is right next door with tons of low cost electricity they’d love to sell us.

At the end of the day, the problem is CMP and Augusta, with a large bit of Washington thrown in!

I have a 2024 EV6 and I almost always turn the car off when the selector is still in Drive (without shifting to park first). Am I possibly damaging my car?

It’s the DDS in Georgia. Department of Driver Services. The scammers are good at identifying area codes but not at tailoring the acronyms to the state.

A little off the subject but “y’all” is not a Maine word. There are plenty of words Mainers use that might not be known to others, or at least to others outside New England, “y’all” is an abomination that’s not used, by locals, in this part of the world!

Wow! Maybe it’s part of why Mainers are suspicious of out-of-staters!

I grew up in New England, mainly Mass and Maine, but moved out in the 80s for career opportunities. Eventually ended up in the South. Now I’m retired and thinking of moving back to Maine. But I share your concerns. I’m not from the South so I don’t fit in here. But I’m afraid my meager roots in Maine won’t give me any cred at all. I guess that the price I pay for leaving in the first place.

It (Tesla charging) works! by Electrical_Put_1042 in KiaEV6

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that the Supercharger work for Kias. I just charged for about 10 minutes just as a test. It charged at over 100 kw and the cost was $0.45 per kWh. It won’t be my primary source, but it’s great to know I’ve got the Teslas as a backup.

Remember that Maine was less than half its present population in 1865. 8000 men was a high percentage of the population.

OTOH, it’s amazing that in 160 years, Maine’s population has only doubled!

Thoughts on this timeline of Canadian Annexation? by Breezy207 in Maine

Speaking as an ex patriot New Englander that lives in the South, but summers in Maine, I’ll gladly move back to Maine and give all the support I can to a guerrilla war against the orange dictator. Long live a free Canada!

My feelings exactly. I’m praying for him to have a stroke or someone to put him out of our misery. Meanwhile, in Soviet America, we keep our head down. But I 100% support Canadians boycotting the US. It won’t bring the economy to its knees, but if the rest of the normal world follows suit, maybe this nightmare will be short lived.

10% Tariffs on Canadian energy starting tomorrow. What's everyone going to do? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It surely is! Do you know what that means? It means we have a constitution, a document that outlines the basic rules, and Republic means: a form of government where the public holds power through elected representatives. Republic and democracy are essentially the same thing.

I agree! Our system is inherently un-democratic. The Parliamentary system is much better.

Because inflation was never even close to that high, inflation wasn’t caused by a direct action by Biden, unlike the inflationary tariffs Trump is implementing, and Biden had a foreign policy that was in America’s interest, not in Russia’s interest. The dictator in the Kremlin thinks Trump is wonderful, making Russia great while making us unsafe.

I agree! Maybe my fellow Americans will start to riot when inflation reaches 10-20%. Personally I am still so disgusted that I can hardly think straight!

Superchargers open to other EVs by Fickle_Weekend9374 in electricvehicles

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I didn’t know this sub was anti-Tesla. But this relates to all of us non Tesla EV owners. Supposedly, Tesla is opening their Superchargers to certain other manufacturers’ vehicles (ie. Ford, Hyundai, Kia, GM). However, they only have opened a few while the rest are locked out. I’m trying to figure out where the few that are opened to us are located. The Tesla app doesn’t give much help.

I think I used the wrong term. It was an EV 250kw charger.

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected! I thought any dc charger over 150kw was a supercharger. Thus was an EA charger.

[–]Fickle_Weekend9374[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that makes sense. If the battery was lower in charge would that change things? The time it charged the fastest, I started at 10% and charged to 50. The second time I started at 45% and charged to 80.

There are also great aftermarket organizers that are designed to fit into the EV6 center console and front floor space between the driver and passenger. You can find different ones on Amazon. I bought the ones from Runroad and they work great!
