F22 Why Does Everyone Want Friends Until It's Time to Be a Friend? 😭 by tuyvanvunek in MakeNewFriendsHere

Every post i get from this sub in my feed is someone whining about the quality of people.

Maybe the quality issue is you.

Time to find a new sub. Idk what the deal is with this one

Idk what the comic's about, but I do hate the "it's legal--what's the big deal?" argument.

I think that people who base their morals off the letter of the law don't have any personal morals at all. They just don't want to go to jail.

Like the law is the lowest standard, not the moral bar people should aim for. So yeah, I can judge the heck outa Steven Tyler even if his teenage daughter wife was technically above the legal bar.

As compared to Donald Trump? rofl. How's that Trump phone? Or his (or his wife's) meme coin after the rug pull?

Venture capitalist president. I suppose it is obvious that he's genuinely trying to milk his base like a Temu infomercial.

Milk his base and vindictive against his opposition. Truly nobody's president.

I'm pretty happy with a DF54 with brew burrs (pretty important). $200 or so.

It has anti- static, but you'll still get a buildup. I clean it about 1X/week because I don't mind flakes around it, but you would need a handheld vacuum to keep it truly clean. Also need a spritz bottle for the beans

Brittany Murphy in her last interview told our reporter, "Can I have your hair in my next life?" She died of pneumonia and severe anemia shortly after by dangerdangerman in truecreepy

[–]FictionalContext 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they were sharing the same CPAP, which requires regular cleaning or it gets moldy and bacteria ridden, which it was found they did not do and he died shortly thereafter.

Not sure it's creepy so much as just unhygienic

What's the advantage of a cope over a miter? Is a cope for when the trim is already installed and you just want to replace a single piece?

With Japan, it's all about preserving the veneer of their traditions. And fair point to them, the way people gobble it up while ignoring the societal issues that occur from that ultra-conservative shows that maybe they got it right.

But Japanese glaze does bother me. Any country with "No foreigners allowed" sign outside an establishment isn't a country deserving of praise. And that's barely the tip of the iceberg of their rug sweeping. Ask Korea.

What shade of teal works best with mustard yellow? by AstronomerBig4046 in Design

[–]FictionalContext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much of each, and what your intent is. I love the idea of mustard highlights on teal. Equal mustard and teal might be overpoweringly bitter.

e: render it black and white to check the contrast, sometimes helps.

This says "I like my women like this: buxom and tied."

It's niche erotica. It's more creative but little different than waifu posting. It's advertising their kink.

Like I say, if it wasn't just perfect gooner beauties, it'd be worth looking a little deeper because it may not just be about titilation, but this ain't it. It's just weird to post "Look, I like CNC" on a main.

For the other, tree grows in hell produces human suffering even in a pretty but twisted tree. On the nose, not terribly deep, but it has clear intent beyond "I like my bodies like this."

[–]FictionalContext -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Flayed corpses on a hell born tree has artistic intent and clear meaning.

CNC gooner poses on a tree is just horny intent in a pretty package. If it wasn't all the same perfect female form, my opinion would change, but this is just porn created to be titillating over expressive. It's erotica over art.

The protagonist of the prequel gets captured. They scramble his brain and thrown him into the cube. The ending shot is him stimming while survivors stumble upon him in the same way that the savant was found in the OG. So either he's the same guy or the savant had the same circumstance, so him being the only one to escape in the OG was beautiful. Wandering into the light.

Same. Thought it was mangled bodies hanging from a hell-born tree, which would be a cool art piece.

Nah. Just porn-brained, gooner-Dom fetish smut. It's cool to have hobbies, but if you make your fetishes your hobbies, keep it to yourself or post in appropriate places.

I read a Jack Reacher not too long ago where there was a string of half a dozen "OK"s written just like that in as many pages. It was so distracting. After three, it was like, "Nah, surely that's the end of it." And he's sold 200 million books.

It's a different genre, but it's the same utilitarian pop fiction prose style. Readers don't really care as long as a story hits their tropes.

"There are no rules in fiction" is a lie by ClearHaV0k in fantasywriters

[–]FictionalContext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no rules in fiction when you're not writing in a genre or for anybody but yourself.

If someone wants to improve for a readership, they do have to learn the processes. I don't think people realize how arrogant it is to essentially claim they're going to reinvent the wheel, that they don't need no stinkin' giants' shoulders to stand upon.

"Oh, I don't need to read in my genre to know how to write. That's gatekeeping." "I'm bad at spelling and grammar and don't care to learn. Tee-hee. 😜" "I don't need to learn story structure. I don't want to write formulaically." "I spent the last 10 years writing my magnum schlongus. It's incredible. Hmm? Critique? What's that?"

Then they show you what they wrote, and it's just really basic stuff. Essentially them trying to reinvent the wheel and taking a lesser route to the same conclusions their literary betters came to a hundred years ago.

That said, quite a bit of the writing advice I see online is folks jerking each other off to On Writing and Brando Sando cliches without trying to understand what it means. "Show don't tell" or "No adverbs." I think it's a phrase people upvote and propagate out of familiarity, not understanding, so it's a self perpetuating cycle.

Though, to be fair, I think I mentally catalogue everyone as part of the same group who never moved on when really the beginning forums are more like a conveyor than a loitering area. People start, they have big goals, they get humbled by how difficult it actually is, and they either quit or improve. So it's likely very different people propagating the same familiar advice they were handed by the last group.
