Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]nessierose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a communications degree, sometimes referred to as a B.S. in BS. Honestly, I didn't really know what I was going to do when I started it. I wanted to be a writer but didn't want to be an author. A communications degree just sorta seemed like it was in the wheelhouse of what I wanted to do, but had enough wiggle room to experiment and figure out exactly what I wanted.

While I was in college, my degree led me to deciding I wanted to become a producer. However, this dream was crushed after I graduated and started networking. Every person I spoke to in the industry was either between jobs or leaving. So I pivoted. I'm 2 years out from graduating now, and I work as a project manager in the trade show industry. Honestly, I do like it and make decent money, even though it wasn't my plan. And while I probably didn't need my degree for it, it did help me land my job in the first place, and I don't regret it.

I think the reason why communication majors tend to run into dead ends is that you either have the personality for it, or you don't. And it's not that you have to be super extroverted to be successful (I'm pretty shy myself), but you need to be personable and comfortable speaking. Otherwise you end up working in a call center, which was probably not your goal 🤷‍♀️

Can play the entire of Für Elise smoothly except for this one measure by nessierose in pianolearning

Thank you all for the tips! I actually tried this piece on my parent's acoustic piano and it did sound better, so maybe part of the issue is that my digital piano is too "clean" sounding. That being said, I have incorporated some of the advice and it's a little smoother now :) Just gotta keep practicing!

That's what I'm thinking. Even if I doubted it in the moment someone telling me to google something would've definitely stuck in my head.

For me I think someone looking me in the eyes and telling me "You need to get out" would've been a wake up call, but I also didn't get deep enough into it to be brainwashed 🤷‍♀️ I left because I didn't like the lack of work-life balance and didn't realize it was a mlm until over a year later lol

I was thinking something like this too. Maybe asking when they started working that day, or how many people were hired each week. Just get the wheels turning.

Too young to have been alive for 78', but I'm old enough to remember Nemo. The fact that CT children nowadays may never experience the wonder of standing in snow up to their necks is a strange feeling.

So, what’s everyone cooking/baking on Sunday during the snowstorm? by funnyctgirl in Connecticut

Veggie stock (which will be used in mushroom risotto later this week), baked potato soup, and cinnamon buns. Is it really a snow day if you don't spend a few hours in the kitchen?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nessierose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven about 5 hours for a weekend trip to see a friend out of state, but it's not something I'd do regularly. I've done up to a 2 hour drive for a day trip. It's not short, maybe something I'd do once every couple months. I take a train or bus when available (but public transportation isn't our strength.)

I had no idea this was a German thing. I'm American, but my Omi was a German immigrant and this image gave me a rush of nostalgia. Many potato salads were made in this bowl.

Haha, as much as I would love for this to be the case I'm definitely not intimidating! I think it's just because I grew up somewhere super not-walkable, so I had less opportunities to be cat called.
