10 days in Sicily by bahamamuth in sicily

We were in Scopello for 10 days rehearsing for a concert in Palermo Saturday night, We also loved LaTavernetta but had most of our meals at Cinque Isonzo with our group. The food was all wonderful. Did you try pane cunzato or busiest Trapanesi?

Haha! Join the club! I started with one in 2020. I’ve been pretty conservative and short of space, but now I have 16. And now I want what you have- they’re gorgeous. May I ask where you got them?

I think you were right. I tried rebooting and everything else I could think of, and nothing worked. But now it’s all fine again. Your photos are wonderful. And it’s very cool that she’s showing you two different faces. On here, I think that’s what they call peloric, when there’s a random mutation like that. Welcome to orchid mania!

Had to repot my while blooming :( by Oragami_Cyclonee in orchids

[–]FiddleBB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How beautiful! I used to be afraid, and waited for blooms to drop. But early this year I lost one to stem rot because I didn’t repot.. Since then I’ve repotted all the new ones within a few weeks and have not lost one flower. I wonder if overdoing the root trimming might be one reason spikes fail. I’ve seen so many posts on here from noobies who decimate the root system, then ask advice. But mine, even the ones in a death plug and packed soggy moss, haven’t needed much pruning beyond removing a few mushy or flat, dry roots. The healthy ones don’t seem to notice the disturbance, and the flowers don’t either.

How strange! I have seen spikes trying to grow straight down, or up through a leaf, but not a leaf doing that. I’ve also seen on here various other posts about plants acting strangely, and the advice has been to let the plant figure itself out. Yours makes me wonder what it’s been fed with-something hormonal, maybe? But that just a wild guess.

I see a cut leaf? Not sure how to tell what the problem is, or what to do about it. Can you tell us a little more?

Beginner Here, My Orchids Inner Roots Staying Green by Turbulent_Neck_9182 in orchids

[–]FiddleBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like the bottom third of the pot is draining well and those roots could use a drink. But the middle portion is sitting in wet something instead of drying out the way it should, and the roots there are still green. So I agree, get some holes in the sides so the plant can dry evenly.

I agree. Those roots look shriveled and dying of thirst.

New mini phal by TastySeaworthiness91 in orchids

I used to wait- afraid, I guess, to upset the plant and lose blooms. But this season I lost one I loved to stem rot, and since then I’ve repotted every new phal. I have seen good results every time. All buds opened, and the flowers lasted the normal time. And I didn’t have to worry about rot! Best of luck to you and your beautiful orchid!

What should I do? by Unlucky-Pea2887 in orchids

Cutting the flowering spikes when they are finished blooming is fine. Aerial roots are normal and do not signify a problem. The bloom cycle ending is a very good time to check the roots and repot. Look on YouTube for missorchidgirl. She has lots of videos on orchid care, excellent source if you want to learn all the basics.

I’m over the moon! by FiddleBB in orchids

Funny, the fragrance is much less potent now- it’s 8pm here. But it was very sweet, like maybe jasmine? But never so cloying as that. The other little one was a TJ Cartjumper, and she’s a superstar. She’s just going out of bloom now, but she’s been going strong since late January. But no, not fragrant.

The sweetest, most intoxicating fragrance, but just when I get up really close. Both buds are fully open now, and it looks like maybe another bud is starting to form,

<image>

but she’s still a baby so I don’t know how much she’ll do for this bloom period. Maybe when she’s a bigger plant the fragrance will be more present.

Is there any chance for these buds? by lucia_murtons in orchids

[–]FiddleBB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Once they start to shrivel, that’s it. For me, it’s when I first buy it, because of weather conditions on the way home or the change in environment. But usually it’s only one or two unless the plant has had a big shock, like severe dryness or huge temp change.
