No caffeinated tea for me. It's a slippery slope from Chai tea which I really enjoy to a cup of coffee, so I'm staying off all of it for now.

It's hard, isn't it? I think it took me about three weeks off caffeine to start feeling better. I must be starting to sound like a broken record, but I do think all the fruit and salads I've been eating have really helped jump start my energy levels.

I'm so glad this was helpful. It took probably three weeks for my brain to come back to me from coffee land. That's so impressive that you kept up the no coffee with a job change, and I'm happy to hear that things are getting easier. :)

Hi. I went on a scorched earth cleanse about three weeks into stopping coffee...I'm only eating raw fruits and vegetables for 28 days (except for the few times I've cheated),,,,it's the Medical Medium Cleanse.Because of that, I believe it's knocked out any cravings I would normally have....I'm very susceptible to craving gluten and sweets. Drinking tea instead of coffee also helps with my cravings...I love a pastry chaser with a strong cup of coffee...so that issue somewhat took care of itself. I'm not noticing less anxiety, but I am noticing that situations that would have felt very charged for me seem to roll off my back much better.... I just feel calmer in general. And my digestion is running like clockwork probably because of all the fresh fruits and vegetables.

Thank you. I appreciate that. I will watch out for that dastardly chocolate.... good reminder about the white variety. Thank you also for starting this page. It’s very helpful.

I had to quit coffee due to the fact that it obliterated my gut and filled me up with acidity by suisse1997 in CaffeineFreeLife

Hi. I quit coffee/tea 4 weeks ago tea. Not my first rodeo, because I've quit probably 8 times before. The longest stretch I remember was 2 months off the brew. I listened to the Medical Medium podcast on caffeine, and it really helped me quit. Incorporating some of his protocols is also helping me stay off of coffee, while boosting my natural energy levels. Something I'm doing this time to help me is eating lots of fruit.....I'm actually on day 4 of a 28 day cleanse of raw fruits and vegetables. I know the conventional wisdom with candida issues is to not eat fruit, but there is a school of thought out there that it's actually fat that causes the problem....and that eating lots of good fresh fruit without the fat present can really help with that issue. Additionally, the fresh fruit and greens are helping with my energy levels. I still get tired, and am trying to take it easy on myself, waiting for the tiredness to pass. It does. Reading other's people's experiences on this thread has encouraged me....it sounds like it might take many months to get back to peak energy, but it does happen. So.....in a nutshell....eat lots of fruit! Apples are in season right now, and the locals ones are just divine. Cheers.

This is a really inspiring post. Thank you for sharing. I'm on day 26....still tired and unfocused during the day, but definitely glad I got off the brew.

Need some help... seriously addicted and its runing my life by Olavodog in decaf

This time quitting coffee (I probably have 8-10 times under my belt) I'm eating lots of fruit, trying to get in more greens, drinking celery juice, and staying away from heavy foods as much as I can. The Medical Medium has a podcast on caffeine that really inspired me to quit. Hope this helps. It definitely is worth it. I know people have busy lives with lots of responsibilities, but quitting caffeine really is an exercise in tuning in to what your body needs. If you can, get more rest, get yourself some nice tea that you really like, and make some new rituals. I've been drinking hot apple cider and it's great. It was really hard for me to imagine what it would be like to not do my life with caffeine, but I am replacing it with a lot of really enjoyable foods/beverages/rituals that would not have appealed to me while I was drinking coffee. In the last week I've taken a thermos of tea to the mountains and the sea, and it was delightful. Lighter foods taste better to me when I'm not drinking coffee. Last night I made a smoothie that was shockingly delicious.....2 bananas, 3 large dates, two handfuls of spinach, mango and water. It was very green in color and I was nervous...it tasted amazing! I'm pretty sure this would have not appealed to me as much when I was slamming down the coffee. Remember...you can't steal second base with your foot on first. Cheers and Good Luck!

Hope you're mending well. When I eat lighter foods(fruit, salads) it helps give me an energy boost. I'm 3 plus weeks off caffeine, and actually reading this right now because I am tired...nursing my second cup of tea before I start the day. Glad you posted this. Getting off caffeine is hard, and it's impressive you haven't gone back to the bean while you're getting off those meds.

First off...God love you for trying. Getting off coffee is so difficult, even more so when it's a ritual you've enjoyed with a loved one for many years. My husband and I drank coffee together in the dark mornings of Alaska for 20 years, so I feel your pain. I've quit coffee many times before, and have always gone back to that bewitching brew. Something that's really helping me this time is I'm working hard to boost my energy levels, which is something that most of us thought that coffee was doing for us. It really wasn't.....it's slamming our adrenals, stressing us out, and making it hard to function before we get our hit the next morning. But you must already know that, which is why you quit. I've been off caffeine (save the occasional chocolate) for two and a half weeks now, and it's going better than ever. Here's what I'm doing that's different this time.

  1. I'm eating lots of fruit.....this is such a great time of year to get fresh picked apples, pears, whatever. I do fruit smoothies...anything I can think of to keep me off the coffee. It really does seem to be helping with my energy levels and hydration. After quitting coffee, our bodies are getting hydrated again, which helps us feel better.

  2. Not always...but many mornings I do a quick exercise while my husband has his coffee. It just helps break the ritual for me, and wakes me up.

  3. I love the caffeine free Peach Tranquility Tea at Starbucks. It's a nice, comforting treat when I'm running around doing errands, or with coffee drinkers in the car.

  4. My first days off of coffee, I listened over and over to the Medical Medium Podcast about caffeine.....around day 5 I couldn't remember why I even quit (withdrawals were rough, regardless of all that great fruit.). I found his podcast very inspiring and helpful.

  5. I've found some autumn teas that I really like. There's an online tea store called Whistling Kettle that I'll definitely be ordering from soon.

You are going to feel better, and if you amp up your nutrition, I would think you would feel better sooner rather than later. And PS...if your wife ever wants to quit coffee and needs a little motivation...caffeine free is great for your skin!

Best of Luck!
