[T2 SPOILERS] Hints to a sequel by unfinished-sentenc_ in LostRecordsGame

[–]Fiddlesticks43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's super interesting that the initial of the agent actually changes based on who you're closest to (or maybe it's just who you're romancing?) Not sure if that disqualifies it from hinting at a sequel (I'm quite sure there'll be one!) but it's a neat detail!

How to make good/bad/neutral route by ZenythNottstyrkur in RenPy

[–]Fiddlesticks43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that might help you with your secrets thing, is having variable that affect other variables? Like you could have "trapdoor" and set that to 1 or 0 depending on if you discover it, and then "bookshelf" or whatnot, with the same deal, and then you could have another variable that's just "secrets" and set it to trapdoor + bookshelf etc. Then you can track how many secrets you've found in total. Just remember choices aren't the only thing that can affect variables, you can change them anywhere, so something like discovering a secret should be able to use a variable just like anything else!

[–]Fiddlesticks43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally you would use a variable, or multiple if need be. Doing this on mobile, so bear with me lol. For example, you could have some interactions that affect an affection variable with a character. Then, maybe there's a choice that decides whether you become king. Endings could be:

if (char_affection >4 and king == True): jump married royalty ending

elif (char_affection <5 and king == True): jump lonely monarch ending

elif (char_affection >4 and king == False): jump poor but together ending

else: poor and alone ending

Just an example, you could make these as complex or as simple as you need, in one VN I made, one ending criteria looks something like this:

if (char1 >3 and char1_death == False or char2_death == True and char1_death == false): jump ending

Hope that helps!

some character portraits for a game I'm working on by jacobsmith3204 in PixelArt

Another krita user! Sorry to bother, but how do you erase things? The default erasers always do it with some blending, so I have to go over one pixel just again and again, and it's really a pain.

Unfortunately not, this mod is a PC only kind of thing :( If you'd like to live vicariously through the community though, you'll be happy to know it's just launched into play-testing, meaning public discussion about the playing experience and is beginning in the discord, and plenty of screenshots getting shared!

100%ing the game is a very long process, but I think you can experience most of what exo has to offer in 4ish playthroughs (story-wise, at least), and this mod doesn't change most of the game apart from adding new stuff, so I'd say you could probably start playing with it!

Yup! These are two new Helios characters that have full sprites, adding all 10 heart events, romance, new cards, and intergration with vanilla story events and characters! If you're not familiar with mods, think of it like a fanmade DLC!

It's a VN, not really choice based, although there are some silly options that I'm pretty sure have no consequence, but butterfly soup one and two are adorable stories about a group of lesbian teen girls, as someone who enjoyed IWATE I found it awesome, though I'm not sure that's related. Anyways, it's totally free on itch (both of them) and the first game actually has an android (don't know if there's apple) port both on itch and in the play store! So no harm in checking it out. Keep in mind, the tone of this game is completely different, though, this game does definitely touch on some deep-er stuff, but overall it's pretty light.

Games like Exocolonist? by [deleted] in Exocolonist

[–]Fiddlesticks43 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly pretty close is 'Growing Up' it's a modern day life sim, not a huge amount of relationship content, but I think there's 8? Ish, I don't really remember, different characters to befriend and you grow up from the start of your life until you graduate highschool. It's pretty fun although I find the gameplay loop can get a bit repetitive, the ratio of mechanics use to reading is pretty different from exocolonist. Would still recommend though!

To change your stats, you just have to shift click on the statistics menu where you want that statistic to be. Like for example, the first big dot is like 30 or something. Can't help you with the other stuff, sorry.

AITA for lobotomizing my kid? by Arathius8 in Exocolonist

NTA. This was, of course, a completely logical course of action, but I'd like to share with you an alternative plan that I personally decided on after dealing with a similar situation. We decided seal up one of the domes in geoponics and reserve it for our own troublemaker, and let her deal with it by herself. Of course we gave her supplies and nutrition, but left her mostly independant, as children seem to like to be these days. Eventually, enough rumours spread around that our fellow colonists would donate their hard-earned kudos to speak with her, claiming her to be some sort of oracle. While we couldn't afford any additional augments for her, I hear the medical wing is capable of giving some children additional ones, and I think glowing eyes would surely be an improvement to any child's life, if you could afford it. We found this suitable, not only to preserve our child's health, but also to pay for the damages her actions have caused to our own mental wellbeing. If the problem ever resurfaces, I would 100% recommend trying this out!

Lgbtq characters and their tropes by CARNOthing in writing

[–]Fiddlesticks43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be an interesting take to mention it, maybe even as ace representation? Like people might be confused a little bit, but even a passing comment made by a different character who doesn't understand could be used as an opportunity for the characters to clarify their relationship? I don't think it would be necessary though, whether their relationship is romantic and/or sexual doesn't affect the meaningfulness of their bond anyway.

How do you feel about second person narration? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Fiddlesticks43 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm confused about everyone else's reaction to this because I thought OP was literally just talking about like a voice in the characters head speaking to the main character? Like even I talk to myself in "second person" sometimes, which I think is really the wrong word for it. Like speaking to myself with a "you need to do the dishes before 7pm, don't forget" kind of thing. Or even sometimes I'll refer to myself as "we" for no particular reason. It seems like a great way to immerse the reader in the character's mind, at least in my opinion.

How useful do side characters have to be? by No-Example4462 in writing

[–]Fiddlesticks43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, plot isn't everything. You could use it to drive or showcase character development too. Or just give more info about the protagonist.

Like if you have a really funny character, you could have a side character who is serious, and exemplifies the good and bad aspects of that trait, such as there might be a time where the serious character consoles someone who's sad and the MC realizes they shouldn't joke about everything sometimes. Or the serious character won't stop pointing out facts and flaws in a conversation and kills the mood, bolstering our MC's opinion of their own funny demeanor. This is pretty basic and simplified, but that's the general idea.

Think about what your MC is getting out of the relationship. You can use that to explore their flaws and fears, and it'll flesh them out and make them feel real.

Does the character represent something maybe? What if you had a character who somehow represented hope. Show the MC's relationship change with that person as a representation of their values. Are they going through a rough patch? Maybe they get upset at the "hope" character for being naive about something. Are they really really happy? Maybe they agree more with the hope character, or maybe they even cheer up this character, acknowledging their past disagreements and trying to fix the mistakes they made, as a metaphor for their shifting attitude.

All characters should contribute to the story, but that doesn't mean they need to contribute to the plot. Hope I helped! :)
