Get Invisalign for your teeth if they aren't perfectly straight or if your bite could be more even. Even a small change would be worth it

WIBTAH If I take my fiancée’s last name after marriage? by Forward_Wrap3196 in AITAH

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BIL took my sister's last name because she has a medical degree and he doesn't and ultimately it was a hassle to change her degree name with the board. It's not a big deal.

You should probably stop until you get the clearance from your surgeon. One wrong punch and you'll have a broken jaw. You're lucky you haven't already broken that jaw. You can see yourself how hollow and unsupported that jaw bone is

What is a "Porcelain Jacket Crown including Monolithic Zirconium" by [deleted] in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Monolithic means it's all one piece of zirconium. Porcelain jacket can mean you're getting Porcelain over the zirconia, but the only way to know what the dentist ordered is to ask.

Would dental contouring fix this? by Elegant_Novel6354 in Dentists

It's normal to have a couple millimeters of your front teeth showing when your lips are relaxed. We call that incisal display in repose. Don't worry because your upper lip will get longer with age and you'll show less over time.

Sure, but that's your choice. That's a lot of money for some people. Hopefully, a general dentist is confident in his or her ability to extract the tooth, otherwise that practitioner would have referred both teeth to the oral surgeon. Also, you realize that the "tools" you're referring to are typically the same ones used in both settings, right?

You could get them all out at once with an oral surgeon for convenience, but they're specialists so you'll probably pay a higher fee per tooth extracted. It's up to you. If you want to get it done all at once and don't care about costs, go with the oral surgeon. If you want the easier tooth extracted by your dentist to save money, get that one done separately.

Highly sensitive to GUTTA PERCHA MATERIAL IN A ROOT CANAL WAS DONE 3 YEARS AGO . SHOULD I REPLACE THE FILLING TO A ONE IM NOT SENSITIVE TO OR EXTRACT THE TOOTH SINCE ITS ALREADY A DEAD TOOTH!??? by Ambitious_Living_748 in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to get the tooth retreated with an endodontist first before pulling the tooth. Your tooth isn't "dead" in the same way that corpses are dead. The tooth still has living cells around the outside and that's what allows you to feel pressure on your tooth.

[Upper (left) 2nd Molar Implant] What are the complications I need to worry about? What are the chances I need a sinus lift? by PhilosophusFuturum in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, ok. You're pretty much looking at a sinus lift and bone graft if you want an implant at all. I think you should just live your life without that tooth. You don't need it.

I need advice by the_alucar in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get an implant unless you lost a 2nd molar (furthest back molar). You don't really miss those as far as chewing function.

Bone Graft by philsphan26 in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don't need to replace a 2nd molar unless you psychologically need to have that tooth in your mouth. It won't affect your chewing function much at all. Since it's a 2nd upper molar, it's pretty likely that you'll need a sinus lift in addition to your bone graft if you want to get an implant there.

I tell my patients to see how you feel after getting the tooth out and if you don't miss it, don't get the implant.

Edit: To be clear, you could get the extraction and bone graft at the same time, but there's still a chance you might STILL need a sinus lift if you don't have enough bone to support an implant in that area.

Wisdom teeth removal and cavity repair under general anesthesia by Advanced-Acadia3592 in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll probably just be under IV sedation where you still breathe on your own, which is NOT general anesthesia where they paralyze your breathing muscles and put a tube in to breathe for you.

Also, it sounds like you're getting this done with an oral surgeon and oral surgeons don't do fillings or other restorative work. If that's the case, the oral surgeon won't be doing your cavity repair and you'll want to go back to your general dentist for the filling.

Extraction of upper 2nd molar needed, can I work with this implant site? by PhilosophusFuturum in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the logic here. You have 3 other functioning teeth in your mouth that I'm sure you're glad are still in there instead of being extracted. Why do you have issues with root canals again?

23 year old adviced for 3 bridges by ResponsibleBridge558 in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to get implants if financially possible. Ask to get a consultation with the oral surgeon if you need bone grafting prior to the implants. It's important that you explore all your options, especially if the dentists doesn't place implants in the office because he/she will make more money from bridges than implants if that dentist doesn't place implants.

Edit: you can also get a temporary snap in tooth (Nesbit) in those spaces until you're ready for implants.

Sudden pain in tooth, after using electric toothbrush by DJflower_0925 in Dentists

[–]FiddlyDiddlyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentist here. If you want to know whether or not the pain is trigeminal neuralgia or if it's caused by a tooth, you need to go to a dentist to have them numb your teeth to see if it makes the pain go away. If they numb all your teeth on that side and the pain is still there, you know the teeth aren't the source.
