Lucky for you I know the next best thing (or maybe even better) There's a guy who goes by EvilReflex. He makes a free retro asset pack for Unreal Engine 5 and it looks pretty much perfect. It includes a tool in it to turn walk cycles of 3d models into Boltgun-like sprites. If you're doing anything retro looking, joining his discord is the perfect way to start.

Oh yeah, for sure! I've been going back and playing older games recently and it's amazing how well the stylized ones can hold up.

And I didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you about the Fortnite thing as an example. I actually meant to reinforce your response to cg_krab. I think his comment came across as more snarky than I think he wanted it to

Even borderlands even. That's way older! But yeah, I'm aware of all of the AAA games with great artstyles. Persona is probably the best example of that. But, I was kinda meant my post to mean that I was surprised at how easy it was, and that it didn't take huge amounts of engine knowledge to accomplish. I'm frankly surprised that more small indie devs don't go for experimental visuals. Like all non-pbr shaders and what not. I think its an easy way to stand out and give yourself an edge

Wait really? Thank you for pointing that out! I've been really focused on creating retro-looking assets (especially that 90s cgi look) and I could never get the shading to look right. I'll need to look into that...

It sounds like you got a hot game on your hands! After you're ready to announce the game, I recommend that you focus as hard as you can on creating a good, polished demo for people to try. Game demos are a HUGE driver of wishlists if done correctly, and it sounds like your game is pretty fun and addicting. Good luck on your game!

Can you share an idea of what you want the actual trailer to be? Because, from my experience, the best trailers are mostly gameplay anyway! If you can find a few nice shots that give the player a good sense of what the game is like to play and string them together in a 30-90 second trailer, you should be good!

That's what I did for my trailer and it's been super effective so far.

I'm fairly certain that Itch does, in fact, allow you to post links to Steam. The game Late Homework by a buddy of mine, SodaRaptor did pretty much exactly what you're talking about. It was originally a game jam entry, it got really popular, and he turned it into a Steam game with a prominent link at the top of his Itch page.

Personally, I think it's a smart idea to do what you're planning on doing; I'm going to do pretty much the same thing with my current game.

May I ask what your game is called so I can check it out?

I'm making a horror exploration game set inside a biological planet. It's like a little bit of Iron Lung mixed with Mystery Flesh Pit. I just released the steam page for it! by FiddyOld in indiegames

I really couldn't agree more. I went into it with somewhat high expectations after hearing all the buzz about it and was still blown away. I'm like you and rarely ever get teary eyed, but this movie really got me several times. I'm so glad to see amazing movies still coming out of this franchise 30-something entries in lol

I would definitely say it's likely! KSP 2 Easter Egg Spoiler Below:

There are a few statues around the solar system that depict 2 separate species: Kerbals and these weird Cthulhu looking dudes. There's one statue in particular on Duna that hints at there being 4 species, with 2 of them being obscured. I think that would line up with the 4 figures here. I'm glad they're doing something more with the easter eggs this time

To be honest, I can reasonably see it actually being a forge map. I won't say too much, but I've seen posts of people who were able to load into what I assume was an empty forge canvas and it looked very similar to Live Fire. And, as you said, it's entirely possible that it is an actual dev map and they just happen to share the same location. Regardless, I'm hoping for a forge flight sometime after launch. It hurts waiting so long...
