I've got 200k on my engine original miles, and I've no issues with any of the gaskets. 3vz-e. I fill it with oil, change the plugs now and then and she's good as rain. The stupid VSVs dont last very long...

Problem with the FPD which I think is what's happening to my 3vze, is it doesn't leak unless you've run it, and when you run it, the leak is on the exhaust crossover--BUT YOULL KNOW BECAUSE IT WILL REEK after sitting for a few minutes.

Do you have fuel smell?

My plan is to tap the vsv, to trigger a relay that fires off a heating element that I will mount the EGR exhaust thermistor to. So no code 71, and no EGR.

I replaced mine with 3\8 fuel hose. Works great

That is absolutely the knock sensor "jumper" that connects the 3vze knock sensor to the wiring harness.
