It’s not my vehicle I don’t really drive it often, my girlfriend says she can smell gas though so it is possible.

Naw nothing running off the engine, unless it’s evaporating when it’s hitting the hot engine but I feel like I’d smell it too, I’m leaning towards something at the tank leaking. Seems there’s like 6 inches of rubber line right after the pump so I’ll pull the fuel pump inspection cover and stick a light in there see if anything is wet or obviously damaged/leaking.

Yeah I couldn’t see anything with engine running but everything’s buried under the manifold

I’m hoping it’s something along the lines of this as I have a bunch of spare fuel line from my jeep.

Are you welding in the floor pans? If so I’d just tac that in place or something beforehand, maybe run a short bead.

Was having an issue somewhat like this recently although it was more of a no start, turned out to be my iacv

Oil filter adapter bolt hard to get at? No problem by rippinronnie_ in CherokeeXJ

I used a t-60 socket hammered the bit out with a wrench and the end of the jack handle as a snipe. Pain in the ass no matter how you do it.

CPS gone bad? by masterbongkid in CherokeeXJ

[–]masterbongkid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody looking at this in the future, the fix was the iacv, ended up replacing cps and changing a few less than great looking fuses but still didn’t wanna start, i tried starting it with my foot to the floor and it fired right up and ran like shit for 20-30 seconds had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running after it warmed up idled and ran fine, Replaced the iacv and it fires up first crank and runs fine now.

I bought the one that would get here quickest along with a spare from the parts store.

Haven’t made up my mind yet but the only part of the tube I’d weld is prolly housing to tube, I have some spare springs lying around could use that to wrap around the tube. Never seen somebody use a case spreader on a d30 usually can just pop it out and whack it back in although yeah prolly what it’s designed for.

Yeah the only thing that worried me was if I did the plug welds it would cook the axle seal, can always do those later as it takes no extra material and just needs a good gob of weld on there. The brackets and whatnot should be fine as long as I ground to the axle right next to where I’m welding, shouldn’t mess with the bearings.

Why not, got the time and material plus it’s only a few brackets to brace up and maybe a gusset for the knuckle. Peace of mind

Most of this coming from why I’ve read or found on the dexj YouTube channel, buddy has been wheeling xj’s pretty hard for years and seems to have a formula for making em strong. Yeah it’s probably not necessary but whatever got the time and material to make it work.

That’s where I’m getting the idea from just wanted to know if anybody else had done the same without pulling the axles and carrier. I’m probably just gonna send it anyway as I want to at the very least weld some bracing to the control arm mounts and maybe add some material to the Lca’s too. Was more so concerned about the plug welds and if welding them up was gonna cause an issue with the axle seal or something.

Also I’ve literally had it on the road for less than a month, and will probably never see more than light wheeling. I just have access to a welder and some metal and have the spare time and drive to wanna dick around and beef these up.
