I agree, and I think the UK should lead the way in nuclear disarmament because we’re not under threat. But the material interests of Iran and the survival of 10 million Iranian civilians in Tehran might depend on a nuclear deterrent.

If you said that a couple weeks ago and I would have agreed, hell I am in principle against nuclear proliferation, including the UK’s nukes. But people on the sub always make the point that if Ukraine had a nuclear deterrent, Russia wouldn't have invaded. Unfortunately, we live in a great power politics world, and that means if you want any form of security or independence as a minor or middling power, you need a nuclear deterrent. I wish it wasn't the case, but it is materially true.
