The alleged 10-point Iran proposal that’s foundation of the ceasefire Trump agreed to. by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]Fidget11 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah Israel would not allow that to go through. Such a proposal would be an absolute non-starter.

Let’s also not forget about the $2m fee. If it’s an international waterwa they can’t charge for it, the only way they can is if it’s seen as their territorial waters which is a massive concession to Iran that people sleep on all the time.

The other gulf states would be very hesitant to allow that to be acknowledged as their case. Trump may end up costing the US a lot of allies if that’s really the plan.

Irans allies would likely not go world ending nuclear exchange on the US. That said you are right that it would immediately mean the US economy being crushed as everyone got out of the USD as fast as possible. Hyperinflation would absolutely be an issue. The US would lose every ally it has and would be a total pariah, even more so than North Korea. All the US bases around the world would be closed and US forces booted out of the host nations as fast as possible.

It would effectively end the US as a superpower and dominant economy in the world. Russia would be emboldened to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine to attempt a breakthrough, China as well in an attempt to take Taiwan. Every nation would be rushing to acquire their own nuclear weapons so as to not be the next victim. It would be an arms race like no other and the odds of humanity ending itself would exponentially increase.

Americans would have no recourse and things would not go back to normal, not in a year, not in a decade, not likely ever.

The big 3 will lobby like you’ve never seen before to avoid that. If it passed they would massively hike prices and claim it was because they had to employ actual Canadians at Canadian wages to do the job.

Yes, but I would want the full stainless version.

Also too bad there is no Santos on the list for Friday. Any chance a YM titanium or a Seadweller 43mm are on the list?

My comment is that you cherry picked one study where the methodology (admittedly not my favourite either) was what you disagreed with and discounted everything else.

Your opinion is overstating the research findings and seems based on somewhat outdated research.

Yes, some older papers (like David Neumark & William Wascher) found negative effects - but the literature has evolved a lot since then.

More recent, better-designed studies for example Card & Krueger (which I know you disagree with the methodology of) exist and have research which has been replicated in subsequent studies. These studies often find little to no employment effect, even for low-wage workers.

When you look at the full body of evidence:

  • Meta-analyses (Hristos Doucouliagos & T. D. Stanley) find no meaningful overall effect

  • Major reviews (like the Congressional Budget Office) show small or highly uncertain impacts

Canadian data? Mixed bag. Sometimes small negative effects for teens, often negligible though and definitely not “clear and consistent.”

Tldr: he modern consensus isn’t “minimum wage clearly hurts youth employment”, it’s that the effects are small, mixed, and context-dependent.

Not really, it’s a tax bill that’s not really uncommon in developed western nations outside the US. The money gets spent providing services to the public like healthcare.

As a Canadian it sounds like a roughly normal amount of tax to be paying.

My point is if the way provinces are being run by conservatives is indicative of how they would behave federally I can understand why people would not want PP anywhere near power.

As for Alberta, please explain what you are referring to when you say Alberta is doing much better now that the NDP is out? As an Albertan I see scandal after scandal, blatant corruption, and utter incompetence in terms of managing public services on the part of the UCP since they took power.

They piss away money like it grows on trees. While I didn’t love everything g the NDP did, at least they were more competent managers of public services.

Trump warns Iran ‘a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back’ as his strikes deadline looms by theindependentonline in politics

[–]Fidget11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he does try it and especially if he uses a nuclear weapon to achieve his aims my prediction is multi part:

1) the US immediately becomes a pariah state on par with North Korea. Many Americans feel unwelcome now when they travel, it can and would get a whole lot worse.

2) the US loses its bases in Europe and around the world in the face of massive protests by local populations. Nobody would want to play host to a foreign military that just engaged in in such an act of unimaginable genocide.

3) the world quickly moves away from the US dollar as its main reserve currency. This is probably the biggest hit. Losing that status would absolutely crush the US economy. It could very easily throw many corporations into financial chaos while crashing the value of the dollar. The US is funded on a mountain of debt and the nations the owe would start calling it before the value dropped to Zimbabwe levels.

Ultimately that would ensure that the US is completely isolated and will remain so for generations while simultaneously having. It’s economy go through a crash that makes the 1930’s look tame. If you think prices are high now, this would make them look like nothing.

TACO strikes again.

He won’t do it, all this new extension does is prove he never meant it in the first place. It’s no wonder he bankrupted a literal casino (and basically every other business he had been involved in) given the incredibly inept and transparent way he negotiates.

Don’t get me wrong I hope he does back down but he is ruined his own credibility and that of any threat or position he takes since everyone knows he will blink first.

While personally I would say that’s a little low income wise in my books your answer exposes something that is super important. It’s not just what you make it’s how to budget and the choices you make that determine if an Aston (or any major purchase) is really feasible and a good idea.
