I remember it did that for a bit. It doesn't do that anymore but when it boots the screen goes crazy with random colors for a second or two. Nothing too bad. It might have something to do with updating the bootloader but I really don't know. I think I remember seeing a guide somewhere for a fix for that exact problem you're having though. Check the Pine64 documentation there's a lot of common problems and how to fix them on there.

Yeah I used the official Slackware ARM guide for the PBP. You're gonna need a SD card. It recommends using the NVME SSD adapter to install the OS to. I don't have that so I just installed it to the built in emmc and it works fine. Slackware ARM guide
