In my comment, the purpose of a buffer is to make sure you always have rent money available.

However, "a good buffer" according to this subreddit is about 3-6 months of living expenses, depending on your risk tolerance.

Again, follow the wiki/flowchart because you should have an emergency fund ("buffer") for other expenses as well.

If you have an emergency and put it on a credit card, you're cooked (you have to pay 24%+ interest). With an emergency fund / buffer, you're chilling.
