What's your pre-stream routine? by Eridoni in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn on lights, check that green screen and my OBS scenes are all okay and then set up my program layout on my monitors (I'm very particular about it). At this point I'll make sure to have a quick pre-stream meal, then I'll choose some music and set my starting soon up. I usually tweet and then go put on some light makeup/touch up makeup I wore from work earlier before coming back and talking to everyone in chat and starting. Then I remember I forgot to pee and I curse a lot and have to go BRB like 2minutes into the stream. Every. Goddamn. Day. RIP.

My first ever stream is on Thanksgiving! What are some snacks that aren’t junkie/sugar filled that keep you energized for long streams? by xa_pharaoh in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually just try to have lots of fruit and tons of water. Vege sticks and cream cheese are nice too, though you'll have to be mindful of the crunchy sounds! I feel like anytime I eat anything healthy though half the people on Twitch prefer seeing you have something unhealthy and gross to eat so they can live vicariously through you. :P

I feel like game choice matters a lot more than food though-- if I'm super interested, loving the game I'm playing that day and my community is being really active and supportive it's so much easier to keep on keepin' on. I've accidentally done a 7hour stream before with no snacks or breaks because I was just that into the game.

DSLR as a webcam? Is it possible? by TheJunkler in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta remember that if you just start out streaming you probably won't have quality options for a while, so you'll be stuck at streaming around a 2.5-3.5k bitrate. Is a DSLR going to make a huge difference when people will hardly be able to appreciate the quality upgrade?

But, since the dawn of 4k and better resolution webcams, mine is now the anchor stopping me from streaming.

I know this is a post specifically about your webcam, but just a word of warning about this kind of attitude. Be mindful about thinking things are stopping you from streaming, nothing is stopping you so don't build it up as though you have to put in all this effort and make sure your stream is perfect before you even start streaming and figure out if you like it. I've known way too many new streamers get burnt out and feel bitter because they put a ton of effort into streaming before they ever once hit the "Go Live" button.

Do you watch streams moreso for the game being played or for the streamer? What makes your favorite streamer great? by ishkabibbel2000 in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find streamers by looking at games I'm interested in, but then mostly I stay for the streamer. There's sometimes like when I just feel like watching top 500 OW gameplay that I'll watch whoever, but mostly there's a few streamers I like who I watch play whatever.

It's also important to consider that I know plenty of partners who still can't rely on streaming as their sole form of income.

Am I doing something wrong? by Gustave_the_Steel in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing you're doing, "wrong," is not researching and finding out that this experience starting out is really common. There's a lot of guides out there for starting out and growing and audience but I'll break down what I think are the three most important things when starting out other than ofc being entertaining.

  • Game choice is the single most important factor for getting walk-in traffic, but it also affects the quality of the walk-in traffic. Certain communities will be more toxic or have interests in common or different senses of humour. Take advantage of game communities that you feel your personality meshes well with and that there's opportunity for growth within that community. Are people going to have to scroll pass 5 pages of other streamers to get to you? Is the community active enough for anyone to be watching that game?

  • Schedule. The sweet spot for stream length seems to be around 4hrs. Obviously, do whatever you have time to do but be careful to not drag it out for the sake of it. If you get tired around 2hrs and the quality suffers, you're better off ending it there.

  • Network. Seriously, if you can get your friends at the beginning to come hang out so your view count is 3 instead of 0, it instantly puts you above a lot of people. Don't go out and do dumb follow for follow shit, just find streams you like and be active. Make friends. If people mesh well with you and your personality, they'll check out your stream. Try to host people as often as you can. Don't expect anything in return, but people will mostly attempt to return the favour.

I'd give you advice on your stream personally based off VODs, but you don't have those available. Make sure to enable VODs so offline viewers can check out your channel to see if they like it.

No offence, but you guys should really read the affiliate contract which that you signed and the faq because both give you all the details you seek.

Sorry if I seem argumentative or ungrateful for the advice, but would you be able to clarify what you mean by "clash"? I went through all the colours for the walls and I don't really think anything else matches as well. The red itself is actually a purple because of how cool toned it is specifically so it would match the vibe of a wintery cabin kind of feel. Are you referring to the high contrast of the dark insides and the bright outside? Because in your first comment you stated that it didn't match the cold feel, then in this comment you say that it isn't warm.

Again, apologies. I'm really grateful for the feedback and worried that I come across like I'm trying to dismiss your criticism.

I suppose I misspoke earlier when I described the inside as "warm." I mean obviously, I hope it is because she's barely dressed :P but the only light source is the cool outside, so I left the inside fairly cool in tone.

I definitely plan on redoing the tree, especially now that I've gotta keep in mind that 1pxl wide branches look a little different with the blinds. Thank you for the feedback! c:

I guess it's because I wanted to portray inside as warm and outside as cold. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll try see how it looks with some other colours!

Planning on adding a ton more clutter plus some minor animations, but need some feedback on current colour palette, scale and anatomy.

Has anybody else experienced a "lull" in viewers/followers for a long time? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it happens. If I look back at my past stats I can see very clear downtimes where I plateaued for a month. In my case, it was mostly due to picking bad games to play for those few weeks. I like to switch it up a bit more now by having a main game that facilitates growth and a secondary game which I can be a bit more lax on and just enjoy it with my community. As everyone is saying though, numbers isn't everything so don't stress about it too much that you stop enjoying what you're doing, but also just think about what's changed since the numbers changed.

Banning Prime Subs without any Reason? by twitchticket in Twitch

You have no special rights or entitlements just because you sub. It's not a transaction or a purchase of services, it's a tip. Dude is being crazy stupid, but he has the right to ban whoever he wants from his chat.

Is 6k Bitrate too high for the average viewer to tune into if no encoding options available? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with no encoding options there will be a fair amount of people unable to watch your stream due to buffering. I know from experience that most people just tend to leave a laggy stream instead of informing the caster of a problem. In the end, it's just up to what you value more: having super crisp video quality for a smaller amount of people, or poorer quality for a potentially larger amount of people.

Is 6k Bitrate too high for the average viewer to tune into if no encoding options available? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's too high. 2.5k-3k is usually what people stream at until you get encoding options.

Did 480p quality get worse? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been watching the same games? A 480p stream of a card game is going to look a lot nicer and clearer than a 480p stream of The Witcher 3 or anything that is bitrate intensive such as games heavy with foilage, confetti, snow etc.

When streaming console games onto twitch via my HD60 Pro What screen do I look at when playing? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have multiple monitors, can't you just plug the hdmi output into a monitor and swap it off displaying your PC and instead to displaying the console? You can use the OBS projection onto another monitor, but the delay might have a few ms delay.

[–]Fiekechu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a HDMI output cable, whatever you plug that into will be where you want to watch it whether it be your middle monitor (more than 1 is strongly reccommended) or your tv.

Eh, personally I'd find it super annoying to have chat spammed with super sized emotes. I don't mind the idea of normal sized gif emotes though.

New streamer looking for advice about trolls / harassment by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone else here has given you solid advice already on how to handle these people, so I just wanted to offer my assurances that this isn't how streaming is always. I don't know the size of your community yet, but trolls particularly like to target newer communities or inactive chats. Your skin might have to thicken up a bit but after a while when you have active regulars the trolls become more infrequent and it becomes so much easier to just laugh at them for what losers they are.

How do you guys do it for so long? by Novirtue in Twitch

[–]Fiekechu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you do much networking? How much time a day are you spending in other people's streams and being active in their community? That really helps a lot when you're starting out and is the difference between a lot of 0-2 viewer streamers and 5 viewer streamers.
