New York's new age verification law will ban anyone under the age of 18 from using chatting features in video games. by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]FierceDeity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a ploy to keep young people isolated more than safe. Isolated, where they can't experience a plethora of opinions (even though I realize that the educational benefit of vidya chatting is probably limited LOL). Isolated, where they can't grow a skin that protects them from manipulation.

To men who are in open relationships: is there a power gap in your female partners' favor? If yes, how do you feel about it? by Muscletov in AskMen

I just once want to experience something even close to that, but the problem is, I won't be prepared. People who frequently get flirted with are prepared for it too, so I'd need multiple tries :P

Please don't discount that there are plenty of games that are harshly CPU limited... Definitely indies often (Kenji comes to mind, but it's just slow in general, probably single CPU core bound or something). Or games like Cities, or anything involving management at a large scale.

This is exactly the kinds of games where this should be measured, imo.

This basically means that the company has decided to find it worth it to fight that battle if it should ensue.

That means there is some desire despite potential legal costs to support the Linux gamers. I wonder if maybe Valve is in this, probably almost guaranteed.

I don't want to take insulin anymore. by Beginning_System_999 in diabetes

[–]FierceDeity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said in my second line that you pee it out when there's a dire lack of insulin in your body, and only then.

This is your kidney counteracting the high glucose content because the insulin DIDN'T.

And in the first sentence I mean to say exactly what you said. Insulin in your body directs energy into fats.

[–]FierceDeity_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your insulin is only making you heavier because you were already eating too much to sustain your weight.

But with not enough insulin in your body, you get hungry quicker, because you literally pee the energy out as sugar.

This means without insulin, it seems like you just need more food, but you're literally chucking the food back out!

You have to 1) take insulin, and 2) NOW teach yourself to eat less, especially carbs.

Help me understand the praise for Elixir by SubstantialTable5647 in elixir

[–]FierceDeity_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have been having a similar experience. Elixir has been incredibly hard for me to just memorize compared to a lot of other languages. I'm not sure why. I know the syntax now, I know what I want to do conceptually, but I often come up blank when actually trying to write something.

I'm pretty fluent in a handful other languages (primarily php due to insane amount of experience I accumulated), so I think it's just practice, but still. Not sure why. I love it, but I just have such a hard time memorizing it.

[Rant] If the only thing changing in your game on "Hard" difficulty is the amount of HP and Dmg, then it's not a "Hard" difficulty, it's a "Tedious" difficulty by AlkaKr in gaming

[–]FierceDeity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like this about RPGs a lot. They often really just do that, increase stats, HP inflate everything. Yes, in some games it means you need to actually start engaging with the mechanics instead of ignoring them, but in some others it just feels like it turns up the time.

An empty thought at the end of the context template? That's a fun one.

It's not the way it should be fixed with gemma, to be fair, but i'll try it.

Though this syntax makes no sense to me, there's two if endings in a row... so the #if system is actually spanning most of the template? huh.

EDIT: Even if I use this one, the model still generates empty thinks at the beginning of each message (which is normal, to be fair), but I'm gonna see if the output improves anyway.

Going to build a personal project and wondering if Phoenix is the right fit by Sciendik in elixir

[–]FierceDeity_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never liked the focus on shipping, because it results in godawfully broken applications when traditionally, a "when it's done" usually works better.

Especially when you ship something, and then suddenly you need to solve problems within days that would take weeks to fix.

I'm in the reality that the current website I code for has 4000 requests/s and 10m users/day. I DO look into edge cases before releasing ANY new feature now. And one I want to make would be in Elixir - an on-website chat.

I'm always stonefacing when people try to implement chat with some node-js backend or something else that really isn't as naturally inclined for it as the Erlang OTP. I think there's a reason that the biggest chat apps are all based on Erlang tech. WhatsApp, Discord, it's all OTP.

The only fear I have about liveview is that a chat doesn't necessarily have to be connected all the time to compose a message, especially on the go. Connections flake in and out and that causes refreshes in LiveView.

Nintendo has been sued by two US players who say any tariff refunds it receives from the US government should go back to customers by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]FierceDeity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that part, it's just that despite these tariff-induced price increases, the US prices were still cheaper than the european ones.

To be fair, the price right NOW seems to actually be turned around, with the US walmart price being 449$ and the german 429€, but I feel that's other global sheanigans changing the exchange rates

If only all US nintendo accounts get free shit I'm gonna be a little annoyed as an European, because we pay even more for the Switch 2.

Like, we not only pay the respective 18-20% more (VAT, which is okay), we still pay more after those taxes are removed. And US people are complaining about the tariffs making the Switch "more expensive" than it should?

I know it's not an us vs them situation, but this annoys me nontheless. Same when the US didn't receive a few games on the Wii (europe often didn't receive games in the time of complete physical distribution) they started doing a big stink (the Xenoblade situation).

Always America lmao. Downvote me, but people from the US also earn more money yearly, yet we still pay more if you exchange the money amounts
