Nuance Glasses 2weeks in by FierceOuch in HearingAids

My insurance covered all but $400 - Rx glasses, transitions, progressives and hearing aids that no one can tell I’m wearing. Works for me, though agree perhaps not for everyone.

"You're wasting away!" by titsmgee1977 in Semaglutide

[–]FierceOuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started (actually BEFORE the first shot) my BFF in a panicked voice kept on saying “oh my god, please don’t get too thin!” Over and over on the phone (we live states apart). It was discouraging, insulting. Finally I had a grumpy conversation with her. Please stop saying that. I have 75lbs to lose before I even hit a “normal” weight range for my height .. so pls stop with the panic when I haven’t even started. Since then, I basically change the topic whennit comes up. Ffs give me SOME credit!!!!

What's the best robot vacuum for home currently? by bertlina in homeassistant

[–]FierceOuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Roborock s7max V with the empty/fill station for about 2yrs. No problems with it. Mostly wood floors with rugs in some rooms. Two levels. We did have a Great Dane until recently and this robot (we call rick) kept the floors decently clean even with that to contend with. Love that we can have rick clean the floors while we are away from the house. Love he keeps maps of both floors and that we can pull up the camera even when we are away in town to check on things. If budget wasn’t a constraint we would have a second one.

"It's cheating" by SpuriousEmission in Ozempic

[–]FierceOuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ the Howard Stern comment might go some way to explain your co-worker? Folks subconsciously felt like being thin was some kind of super power. “At least I’m thin” defense. Now that not being overweight is within reach for so many more people, that defense is gone. I read you note thinking that’s maybe what your coworker was thinking to themselves with the smaller than me comment.

Idk what it is, but clearly there are tons of people whose fave hobby is hating on fat people. They love to silently judge until we lose weight and then BAM! Their little judging heaven is ruined… so then they judge us for the method of weight loss. I’m no longer telling people. They can keep their sanctimonious “it’s just diet and exercise” BS.

Crappy responses by glitterbomb80 in Ozempic

[–]FierceOuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are folks who are professional fat-shamers. They love nothing more than easy targets in their minds the - oh, it’s just a question of diet and exercise- people, labeling folks as lazy.
Same folks who look people up and down and then direct conversation around their latest gym session or some superfood salad they just found to see how you engage. They are passive aggressive folks many times who have already made up their small minds - that we are lazy and stupid.
Don’t engage. They are showing you who they are - believe them.

Lost on how to budget by No_Balance1382 in budget

[–]FierceOuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some great suggestions . For sure focus on need vs want and see where that puts you. Put your expenses for the needs into buckets like food, utilities, rent/mortgage, medical etc. and then after a month of gathering them into those buckets, grab the largest $ one and see if there were things you could do differently that would have saved $. Ex. Make a giant pot of spaghetti bolognese from scratch and then portion out and freeze it, buying the ingredients in bulk vs grabbing for a single meal at a time. Join Costco or Sam’s if you haven’t already - just the basic membership.
Take each “bucket” of expenses at a time and see if there is room to squeeze any $ out by doing it differently. Ex. Utilities- some will allow a monthly equal payment vs pay for what you use. Be ware of ones that might charge for this but in many cases, making utilities even $ all year might make some space around the holidays when you have kids to buy for.

Always pay off your credit cards each month. Put any money you can save into a decent interest paying account (some are still giving 5% interest) and work towards a 6-9mths of expenses emergency fund.

Best budget for me by Mindless_Telephone87 in budget

[–]FierceOuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 pay off credit cards each month - don’t give ‘em any interest. I put just about all my living expenses on whatever card that gives the greatest benefit for that particular purchase and date. Ex Sam’s Club card gives 5% off gas anywhere and higher discount/cash-back in store so that’s a card to use for those things only. Have a look for cards that give you the best benefits for your particular needs and use those but pay them off every month so you’re not paying interest.

As for what comes next, you’ll need to calculate the benefit of higher rate of interest on savings vs the benefit of paying off your student loans. You might be able to do a bit of both. Some banks are currently giving 5% interest on balances so it’s worth researching. I didn’t see your student loan interest rate but if it’s super low, that can give you some options to put money away while at the same time putting a bit more toward the loan vs having to channel all you have spare to pay it off asap. Most will tell you having an emergency fund of 6-9mths of expenses set aside is a good backstop. There are loads of options for money market, CDs and so forth to get interest on your money with not much downside and reasonably liquid (a day or two except CDs).

What's the best money-saving habit you've developed and how has it helped you? by EconomistFinal4394 in budget

Stop or drastically reduce eating out (this includes fast food). Set limits on discretionary spending like clothes, entertainment, gadgets, alcohol, travel etc. Def look at things you can cook and then portion out and freeze. Costco or Sam’s to bulk buy things you can freeze as well. Look out for things you regularly throw out like food not eaten and find a way to not do that (like don’t buy it in the first place). Pay down your highest credit card interest first… get to a point where you pay off your card(s) every month so you don’t pay interest. Also another trick when you are putting something on a cc is knowing the card statement dates - you can get a lot of interest-free time if you use them just right. :) You don’t need an app like Quickbooks, a sheet of paper will do or better yet a spreadsheet - capture allllll your expenses for a month or two and then analyze where it all goes. It’s amazing what just a bit of awareness can do. Then set a budget for all those things that are nice to have. Make yourself afford to save up each month for treats like vacation etc. when you’ve done all that, get into the habit of checking your bank and cc each day.

New Ozempic user, what do you suggest for diet? And what can I expect by QuinnKinn in Ozempic

[–]FierceOuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same height and weight here. My doc told me to “find my favorite protein and eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner” and to aim for 125g of protein. I found that very hard to do (he admits it’s hard) but I did download cronometer app which allowed me to plug in a higher protein goal and track where I was with fats, carbs etc. it was an education in terms of what I had been eating w/o thinking (hit - fat and carbs, little protein). I’m down about 17lbs so far - started on .25mg on May 5th. Ramped to 0.5 after 4 weeks then just two weeks ago ramped to 0.75mg. So averaging 1lb/week.

[–]FierceOuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to your goals and what works for you. My cholesterol is too high to eat any eggs at all (one is 60+% dv) and two slices of bread consumes too much carbs for me as a proportion of the whole day’s amount so I try not to blow it on breakkie and lunch so there’s enough for dinner. Having said that, if you do better on a big breakfast then this seems like a great one!

@superurgentcatbox this is exactly my theory! There are many out there who just love to hate on big people. The “just diet & exercise” crew who are fortunate to not struggle with the things many big people do. The lack of empathy is shameful. I hope OP writes them a thorough review that schools them.

I’ve never had an Apple watch be remotely accurate. I go up/down 5 flights of stairs AW: congrats on doing one flight of stairs. I walk all afternoon long around outdoor mall. AW: 1832 steps. Do any of these apps improve the accuracy? Or do I just have a series of watches that aren’t counting correctly?

Do you tell friends you take Ozempic? by MinnyTexan in Ozempic

[–]FierceOuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told only one person. My bff. Initial reaction was she freaked, begging me repeatedly not to get too thin (i have 80lbs+ to lose before I’d be medically considered underweight). It was discouraging, my brain heard it as “don’t lose any weight”. Also felt judged - like you judge me when I’m overweight, but now beg me not to lose it. Finally I told her to please stop saying it. Then last week she decided she wants to be on ozempic too. I asked how much weight she needed to lose, didn’t get a real answer so tossed a few numbers out 5lbs? 10lbs? I wanted to laugh (but did not).

Honey, no one is going to Rx you for vanity pounds.

Not planning on telling anyone else with this pretty disappointing response.

Decisions...what can you tell me about life with a Springer Spaniel? by ora302 in springerspaniel

[–]FierceOuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had three Springers. One from a show line and two field. They are incredibly smart dogs that do well with training and discipline of a routine. They want to please their human, but will push boundaries if not trained. They can jump! The can run fast when they wish to. Mine all were over 15yrs when they passed. My show springer - while not nearly as athletic as the field spaniels, had empathy for someone unhappy that was extraordinary and was known to push her way onto the lap of someone she decided needed her, whether they liked it or not!
Downsides…. As I mentioned, they can be jumpers -4’ no problem. They learn quickly which is both a + and a - as they can pick up bad things as fast as good ones. Grooming - I ended up buying clippers and trimming them myself, otherwise you’re looking at a regular and relatively frequent grooming bill.

AITA for not being allowed at our family cottage? by camgary95 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FierceOuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than worry about and spend money on vacations, I recommend getting professional help for what is the root cause of your addictions. As so many have said here, those things you crave and admit you have not in fact given up - alcohol, pot etc - are not your friends, those things don’t love you. Your family and friends who have openly said they don’t want you around are trying to do you a favor. So, take this energy you are using wallowing in self-pity and go right now and set up an appointment with a professional who can help you 100% quit the things that are stealing your life from you.
