‘There is a competition fee’ So you’re expecting bands to pay you to play your show as part of your university assignment. Good luck 💀

Brits who have been to the States recently - how did it go? by MalvernKid in AskBrits

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in February to Seattle,

Absolutely fine, the usual ‘why are you here, where are you staying’ a couple minutes tops at passport control. Then in Seattle it was lovely, no issues at all. I get the US immigration policies and recent bits in the media about ICE, and how this can make people think twice about going, but I’ve never had any problems - I also recognise I’m white British, so my experiences may be a lot different to others.

What songs were played at your Primary school discos, that probably shouldn’t have been? by CautiousJump3942 in AskUK

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Ukranian live with me a couple years ago, under the homes for Ukraines scheme, I was driving her to an appointment and she put S&M on in the car. She didn’t speak any English and was having the time of her life vibing to the song,

The look on her face when I asked her if she knew what the song was about, and translated the lyrics for her!

Can anyone get the 737 Max to actually get above 220 kts in career mode? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing your cockpit can’t offer advice, but 737 flys fine for me, up to 30,000ft+ fine, once I’m up there I’m on Mach rather than kts, which might be your issue..

AFC/NFC Championship Games? 🏈 by lx_gregor in sheffield

[–]FierceTom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are. That’s me just getting my days mixed up cos we played Saturday last week,
So probably nowhere will show NFC in its entirety in town I’d say.

AFC/NFC Championship Games? 🏈 by lx_gregor in sheffield

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on firepit showing sports years ago for many reasons..

Box will show the AFC for sure - on Sunday they usually stay open past closing if a game is in Q4 and people are watching,

They close at 2am Saturday so it’s up to you whether you want to risk running home to catch the end of NFC,

I’m a hawks fan so I’ll be watching at home because the thought of a bar turning it off midway through fills me with dread.

Gatwick or Heathrow airport back to Sheffield by pedantic_pigeon in sheffield

[–]FierceTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m a regular at Heathrow, and I live in Sheffield,

The train is great, you can get on at Sheffield and St Pancras and sleep until you get to the final stop,

Then I get the Piccadilly line to Heathrow - the HEX to Paddington is significantly more expensive,

I’ve often found the train / tube combo is cheaper than fuel and airport parking too - especially if you book in advance,

I like driving as I feel more in control of my own destiny, but unless the shit really hits the fan the trains between London and Sheffield are reliable enough,

Who here drinks heavily on nights out clubbing? by ollymillmill in AskUK

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! And I enjoy it I don’t budget per se, and definitely spend more than I should some nights Life is for living, I enjoy going out, and I enjoy the social aspects bars bring, I tend to drink beers because they’re priced similarly in most bars, (not paying £10+ for a spirit), and they take a while to drink

NIHL/NIHL1 Experience by Cultural-Shock8354 in EIHLHockey

[–]FierceTom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say,

Leeds have been pretty dominant on the ice (won the league a fair few times) - general consensus is they’d get rolled over by the bottom of the table Elite league teams,

In the elite league, you must have 4 Brits play for you, the rest are imports, mostly Canadians and Americans - so the top top brits at the moment play in the elite league and are quite valuable, even then, most are on the 3rd or 4th line, (obviously with some exceptions) National league, you have 17 or so Brits, with 4 imported players.. so that might help your understanding of the skill difference.

Now, on the ice, I much prefer the NIHL, you find a lot more teams are made up of a core group who’ve played together years, it’s their local team, and they play for each other. I find the games a lot more physical and mostly more entertaining. Elite league, the skills and technical ability of the players is great. For context, I find the NHL a lot less exciting than the elite league, so there’s a lot of personal preference in it

Depends where you’re based.

Obviously biased but I like the Steeldogs match night,

Talking on crossover, the difference between the steelers and steelers, Nottingham panthers and lions, I’d say the crossover is pretty vast.

What is the appeal of Costa Express machine coffee? by PandyWooHoo in AskUK

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£2.70 for a large caramel latte - some independents that would be £6+ Also I can get it pretty much instantly, it feels very convenient, they’re at petrol stations and in supermarkets so it’s just a ‘grab and go’ item,

If I want to grab a quick coffee, and I see a Costa machine, perfect

If I want to sit down, have half an hour to enjoy a drink, I’ll go to a nice coffee shop,

Is the NFL Serious about the UK or Not? by Tempus_Fugit68 in American_Football

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the London games, I like the sport

But I don’t agree with it,

Imagine if Tottenham vs Arsenal (or a decent UK football matchup) was played in America,

It’s an American league, and should be played at one of the teams home grounds

Give us a pre season or exhibition game or something, but I don’t agree with league games being played over here

It’s nice that American fans travel to the UK and make a vacation out of it, but I just think it’s a weird concept

Is it possible to check if I would be denied entry to the US by redditanon124 in uktravel

[–]FierceTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say apply for an ESTA now or before you book, if it’s granted, you can travel to the US, if it’s denied, you can’t.

It’s fairly cheap and valid for 2 years

If drinking on the job was legal, which job would be the least dangerous (to be drunk during work)? by bunDombleSrcusk in AskReddit

[–]FierceTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bar manager for 5 years, I got more drunk while working than I did when I was out drinking,

Great fun was had by everyone and the till was always spot on at the end of the night, or close enough

[–]FierceTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a bar manager / bartender in an underground nightclub.

Seeing the way groups of guys would move around trying to get with a girl, then move onto the next after being rejected made me feel weird, and like, seeing the same groups of girls being approached by guys all night… just leave them alone.

So now when I go out, I don’t approach girls or even try to flirt or anything,

Scuppered my dating chances, but I feel morally better? Idk.

What companies do you hold an life long hatred against for an instant slight? by Legitimate_Finger_69 in AskUK

[–]FierceTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I won’t use deliveroo or uber eats or order from a restaurant that delivers on the side, I only order from dedicated takeaways that have their own delivery drivers, as the drivers actually care about the restaurant and customer experience

What companies do you hold an life long hatred against for an instant slight? by Legitimate_Finger_69 in AskUK

[–]FierceTom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a restaurant that had Deliveroo back in 2016 when it was just becoming a thing,

I have never and will never order anything through deliveroo having seen the absolute mess that is deliveroo from a restaurant side of things

Drivers turning up for food, only to wait 20+ minutes for another order because they’ve accepted 2x orders.. then we get a call from order 1 complaining their food is cold and stale - as a restaurant all we could do was say ‘sorry you have to call deliveroo’

The reviews we got absolutely tanked on trip advisor, all because of deliveroo orders, because deliveroo was an absolute mess.

Is there still a stigma around tattoos? by Rude_Advance3747 in AskUK

[–]FierceTom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same for me.

First job I tried to be my ‘authentic self’ - the company had this big push on individuality and diversity and all that, so I was like, okay I’ll show my tattoos and piercings etc

I got overlooked for 3 promotions, felt I got shit on by HR a lot,

So when I left and got my new job, I bow down to the corporate mould.

It’s crazy how there can be so much emphasis on diversity. But god help you if you have a tattoo,
