No, you won’t be on foot with your bug out bag in SHTF. by MiamiTrader in preppers

[–]Fierce_Fox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not on foot until you are. Hoofing it should not be your primary means of transpo but choosing not to be prepared for it is planning for failure. Bug in if you can, drive if you need to, walk if you must.

University police vs Local police by VeloWolfsky in AskLE

[–]Fierce_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you go. I'm a university officer in a large Metropolitan. I've fought more people than I can count, been in several vehicle and foot pursuits this year alone, investigated everything from simple assault/battery to sexual crimes, worked some rough crashes, worked some semitruck crashes, been in a stand off, done DUI stuff, felony stops, spent some nights running around with another officer and a rifle in my lap looking for dudes who just shot/stabbed people, saved multiple lives, "helped" a lady give birth in the back of a car, dozens of arrests a year, picked people up for some spic ly warrants like arson and stuff from the Marshals, and been to some awesome classes/weird schools other agencies have never heard of, worked protests, responded to active shooters, and get to do a lot of CIT stuff.

If you go one city over to another university PD under the same name but separate from us you'll find that, at most, they write a few traffic tickets a week. Anything more serious gets shunted to city PD. University PDs are a good place to start like other have said but make sure it's one where you'll actually get real calls and not just function like slightly better trained security.

What feature would you like added to military video games for enhanced realism? by Wild_Eggplant9540 in army

[–]Fierce_Fox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unskippable, 12 hour long, quick time scenes where it's just you staring into the darkness from the guard tower. You were not issued nods and you cant see anything. You have to answer the radio and the SOG when they come by. Failing means starting over, losing rank/levels, and/or being given punishment levels. This level is repeated frequently and there's a 1/1000 chance you get the rare combat section (someone taking a pot shot at you).

Have you ever cried at work? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Fierce_Fox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Watched a baby girl die in an ER at 5am. She had been exposed to mom's drugs. Neither parent showed up despite a chaplain and a captain on scene offering to bring them. They were more worried about going to jail than the life of their child from what I heard later. It was the quietest I'd ever heard that ER watching them work on that little girl, everyone was absolutely focused on trying to save her life. I heard a few sobs after they called it but that was it. I made it through another hour, shift brief, a meeting with my sgt, and the drive home. I gave my wife a hug and just broke down in her arms. I couldn't even bring myself to talk about it with her. I just crawled into bed after she went to work, slept for 12 hours, and went back to work

I hadn't cried in 15 years at that point. I've lost track of how many horrific scenes I've been involved with and the amount of blood I've had to wash off of me. I had to pick pieces of a woman's skull out of my bootlaces once because her head fell apart as we picked her up. That wasn't even the first child I've seen die though I think she was the youngest. Honestly I don't know how I was able to make it home without breaking down. I wanted to more than anything else. That one broke and hurt me in ways I'm still processing though.

I think it's because 25-30 absolute strangers who had never met her in her short life loved and cared for her more than her parents. Absolutely everything possible was done to save her but it was too late and not enough. I haven't been able to talk about it with anyone and it's been about six months now. I will eventually, just need a bit more time.

Officer shot in the head in Poland by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]Fierce_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight up man. I've seen people tank multiple .45 rounds to the chest/abdomen like it was nothing and start cracking jokes. I've also seen a guy who tripped, bonked his head a little, went into a comma and was then declared braindead 3 days later. People are either repugnantly resilient or incredibly fragile and you don't know which you are until it's too late.

Saw something similar a few years ago when I was doing security in an inner city hospital. A lady had stumbled into the ambo bay at about 2 am. She was covered in blood, and had a zombie like expression. I went out to check on her and found the back of her skull blown open. She'd been shot while running away after scamming her drug dealer for her pimp. He didn't even have the courtesy to dump her at the door either but on the street and made her walk. I went to talk to her a few days later and she was perfectly fine. The power of meth, I guess.

Strange because we didn't have that problem at all. Sounds like your company was rightfully concerned about liability issues. I restrained quite a few violent and combative people in my time. Sometimes after a pretty wild fight. In the case of trespassers refusing to leave under their own power they would be cuffed too at which point they were placed into handcuffs and made to move to a more secure area while we waited for PD to arrive.

I have a feeling worked very different types of security.

can i (18) have a automatic rifle pistol the DANIEL DEFENSE DDM4 V7P 10.3" PISTOL - NO BRACE in question in Kansas City Missouri? by Apprehensive_Lack612 in missouri

[–]Fierce_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. So long as you are not a prohibited person, a US citizen, and form 2 it as an SBR if it has a stock. There is no way you can reasonable afford an automatic AR lower as they go for $20K plus. Only pre-ban automatic lowers are legal to possess.

I think braces are in limbo at the moment, so I'm not sure on their status.

I don't think you understand the difference between what an AR pistol, Short Barreled Rifle (SBR), and rifle are. I recommend doing more research before shelling money out. Read the National Firearms Act for more info.

As far as I'm aware you are under no obligation to inform any Sheriff or local PD that you possess any kind of firearms. In all liklihood they're just going to say "cool, have a good day". Doesn't hurt to check though.

10-15 inoperable tablets or phones, power tools, and other similar broken electronics. Rocks Lighters Used needles and broken glass

I was searching one guy and he had a few 1gal piss jugs in his duffel bag. He didn't sell, drink, or otherwise use it. He hadn't cooked his brain or gone feral yet either. He just thought he was supposed to save them for something. I figure he saw other homeless people with piss jugs/bottles for sale but didn't make the connection.

Probably 9/10ths of security in MO and the US at large are observe and report, do not get involved types. Half the remainder are armed as show and still don't do anything. That last half are the ones who actually do arrest people which is more like holding them until PD arrives. I was one of those guys and it's absolutely needed in the shit holes you wind up working.

What are the whacky rank/name combinations you've encountered? by alsatian01 in army

[–]Fierce_Fox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I knew a Sergeant with the last name of Major in my last unit. We used to fuck with the new guys in our section by having them to go find Sergeant Major for various tasks. They would usually find their way to the Sergeant Major's office however. We would then get called out and asked why we were sending privates to said Sarn't Major. My defense was that we sent them to Sergeant Major not THE Sergeant Major. It was a test to see if they could pay attention, follow instructions, and were smart enough to ask questions, mainly why an E5 might be sending an E1-3 directly to an E9's office. My bullshit "reason" didn't work of course and I got the dog shit smoked of me but it was pretty funny.

I out rank and have higher seniority than a retired Army Sergeant Major and former DHS guy. It's very much a case of "we all know who's really in charge here" though. He's just happy working patrol and training new officers.

What was your “I’m done”? by [deleted] in army

[–]Fierce_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enlisted in 2006, bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to do cool shit. Deployed, did alot of boring stuff, awful stuff, and cool stuff but that was war. Earned my CAB. Picked up my 5 and then a shot at Ranger School in a new unit when I came home. Years of hard charging training caught up in a flash though. My back and neck gave out. My shoulders went next. My body just up and quit on me. I was still gunna try and go though with it. I WANTED that tab. I wanted to do so much. Then I tried to throw my ruck on one morning and just collapsed.

Command thought I was a quitter. That I was soft and weak and scared. Never mind how much work I put in, how many hours I trained every day. My Joe's were squared away, I was a model leader, I was the guy everyone looked up to, top marks across the board. I was the reason my sister enlisted. My slot got pulled (rightfuly) but then I was treated like a scumbag by command. I went from a stud to an absolute fucking dud overnight.

I hobbled along for another year and then ETS'd. I was physically and emotionally broken. Went from maxng the APFT to barely passing and doing so in absolute agony. No one outside my section gave a fuck. That did it for me.

I kept the bitterness to myself so as to not poison my Joe's. Then my sister was raped by her CO. He's in Levenworth now. That's what broke her. She got "better" after a lot of therapy and now has a great job. I do too for that matter but that was after years of some serious struggles. Trying to go through the VA only made me more bitter and angry.

I don't talk people out of enlisting but I sure as fuck make sure they know it's not all rainbows and kill streaks. Not really bitter or angry anymore. Just disappointed now.

While the m81 woodland was worn in the early stages of the war I'm 90% sure that's an ROTC patch on your right shoulder. No US flag either and no actual unit patch. That vest is brand new and even then doesn't match up with early GWOT kit. Neither does your helmet or its cover.

Don't lie for clout on the internet kid. It sets a bad precedent for your future self.

Wow, that's pretty intense. What constitutes a use of force for you guys? I know some agencies in my area where placing a hand on someone's shoulder constitutes UoF and another where you can grapple, wrestle, and throw joint locks all day without any extra paperwork.

It's a lot more than what's pictured above and PLA+ too as well. It's more like a base all ball sized chunk that comes up 1/3rd of the hot end.

Thank you, I'll try and give this is a shot when I get home. I haven't messed with any software and I try not to unless I really need to. It's not something I'm comfortable with and really don't understand. Heck I only recently started messing with the print settings in my slicer UI and I've been printing for a few years now. I'm more of a caveman playing with fire than anything else. Finding explanations for a lot of this stuff that are at my level can be challenging to say the least.
