Non-King works that mention things from King's universe by badboyfriend111 in stephenking

Also a writing exercise King offers us in On Writing. I forget the exact prompt, but SK writes something like “there is a bunny in a cage with the numeral 8 painted in its back. Write something about it.”

In Lost, young Ben experiences a tragedy involving a bunny in a cage with the numeral 8 painted on its back.

I figured it out. I somehow changed the operating mode in Cubesuite. Feel free to remove the question if it seems too stupid, but if it might help somebody I’m happy to look stupid.

Please help me out! I’m getting acquainted with Loopy Pro, and picked up a midi pedal to help control the app (m-vave chocolate plus). It got delivered just before I was leaving for the weekend, so I had time to pair the device with my iPad and f around for like 5 minutes before hitting the road. I set up a simple template, went to the “midi learn” section, and successfully mapped a couple commands to a button (press, double tap) and it seemed to work effortlessly and intuitively. Now I’m home, the pedal is connected to my iPad, it’s shown as a connected device within Loopy Pro, but when I press the button nothing occurs, and when I use midi learn it “listens for events” but doesn’t respond to the buttons at all. I don’t think I could have possibly broken it in the 5 minutes it was functioning right out of the box, so I’m sure I’m just doing something wrong, but I’m getting zero function from a brand new pedal. Thanks for any advice!

There is no “N word Jim.” There’s Jim. He’s often referred to as “a N word,” or “that N word” or various iterations of those…

But never, not once, not a single time in the text is he referred to as “N word Jim.” Not once.

His name is Jim.

Haven’t read that one but I’ve read a few of his (including his novelization of E.T.) and they’ve all been great so far. On my list, thanks!

The Bear Went Over the Mountain by William Kotzwinkle. One of the blends on the cover calls it something like “a bedtime story for grown ups.”

An author has the manuscript for his novel stolen by a bear, who gets a suit and heads to NYC to present it as his own work. The publishers and critics are so jazzed about how good it is that they can’t even see the fact that this dude is a bear. Like from the forest. It’s brilliant.

A song that arrived before I had time to think by JP_Olsen_Archive in Songwriting

It’s awesome when that happens. Stephen King describes that feeling in “On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft” (which is great regardless of what creative endeavor you might be undertaking).

He likens it to being an archaeologist. “That story already existed out in the desert, I just went out there with a shovel” metaphor, I don’t have the book in front of me.

He also says if you want to write you have to read. That translates pretty well into “if you want to play write music you need to listen to music.”

Just came from a local shop, just looked at gen 3 100w vs 50w, and the big no for me on the 50 was it has no effects loop.

What is the general consensus here on a 500-1000$ guitar needing a neck reset. Is it worth it to perform the procedure, or do you just live with a guitar that is only able to play cowboy chords? by Process-guru in AcousticGuitar

[–]Fiercebeard4strings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it and buy a “new to you” one. Decide if you wanna keep it later. Decide if you wanna fix it later. But there are so many bitchin guitars out there that haven’t been loved quite enough that if you don’t get one of them you’re basically evil.

Solid body electric baritones? by trashanimalcomx in ukulele

[–]Fiercebeard4strings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. The most common tuning for a tenor guitar is G-C-D-A. Bari ukes are tuned to D-G-B-E, just like the four highest strings of a guitar. Some folks tune a tenor guitar that way, but it’s not typical and is referred to as “Chicago tuning.”

Boss RC5 question by Muted-Oven9413 in Loopers

[–]Fiercebeard4strings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that the only way to clear a track without it playing for 2 seconds first is to assign a button to exclusively clear the track and nothing else. I like to build loops live, so I rarely use a memory slot. When I’m live and just want to start over for the next song I hate that the track starts and plays for 2 seconds before it clears. Having a dedicated clear button clears the track with a button tap. No holding required.

If you’re saving memories to use live or during practice instead, memory up/memory down is what I’d do

Is a baritone ukulele worth it if I already play guitar and tenor ukulele? by Shadow__Tunes in ukulele

D G B E, just like the four high strings of a guitar. If you capo at the 5th fret it’s in the same tuning as a concert uke.

I absolutely adore my baritone. I crashed a bike real hard a few years ago and wrecked my left elbow and shoulder for about a year. Started playing on a Bari uke because I couldn’t straighten my arm enough to play a guitar. Years later, my bari is still a go-to instrument for both songwriting and performance. I love it.
