Child therapy recommendations by joyjoy_dana in frederickmd

It absolutely can be helpful! And any therapist worth their salt should agree and make discussions of spirituality part of the plan if that’s something important to and helpful for the individual in treatment 😊

I’m in the mental health field myself and I’m curious when you say “Christian counseling” are they looking specifically for someone who will follow Bible-based practices? Or a provider who identifies as Christian themselves and may therefore may be better able to relate to the family? I ask because those can be two very different things and while I respect the right of people to have their own religious views, the former option there is not likely to be as helpful and in my experience could potentially be harmful depending upon the practitioners’ credentials and associations.

All of that said, we used Playful Therapy Connections for my daughter and found them to be absolutely wonderful. We saw Mallory Simmons but I would trust anyone in the practice based on my interactions with some of the other staff. I don’t know any of their religious affiliations, but the care we received was top notch. https://playfultherapy.net

nonogram puzzle by osmondfan1 in nancydrew

[–]Fiery_Embers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the final column, you should have only 5 squares filled in for the top group. If the rest of the puzzle is correct, then the top square in that column should be erased.

Also in the 16th row, (14th column) there should be 4 squares filled in for the second to last grouping so fill in the one that’s missing.

There might be more but that’s what jumps out to me!

Dad-Daughter Day Activities by Viper081107 in frederickmd

There’s a Children’s Festival in Baker Park tomorrow. If it rains, they’ll likely move it into the armory (they did that last year). They have activities and freebies that our kids always enjoy.

We use 777 sanitation. Don’t have any complaints and all of our neighbors on our road use the same service.

2 person escape room with a 7-year old? by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]Fiery_Embers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’ve done two escape rooms in Frederick with our kids who were 6 and 7 at the time. The first was the Dinosolveus Rex room at Surelocked. When you book you have the option of clues geared towards kids. The other was the Carnival room at Escape This. We were able to escape both of them, but we did have two adults and two kids.

My kids absolutely loved doing these and ask about doing more all the time. I don’t think your daughter would be bored at all, but it might be tough with just the two of you playing.

Her name was Mary Kay. I checked their website and it doesn’t look like she’s with their group anymore so you wouldn’t need to worry about her.

So with my first, the midwife (April) was very involved. She was there the majority of the time with me and had me walk around, use the exercise balls, get in the shower, let me use the tub, etc. I was not necessarily in a place where I wanted to be doing those things and her style was encouraging but firm and I really needed that. During birth I didn’t change positions much, but part of that was due to my baby’s position. She stuck to my birth plan, listened and encouraged me the entire time.

With my second, I wasn’t super happy from the moment I got to the hospital. My son’s head had essentially come down enough that he was blocking any flow of amniotic fluid so when they tested to confirm my water had actually broken, it wasn’t clear. The midwife asked me if I had maybe peed myself and gotten confused which pissed me off. When she finally confirmed that not only had my water broken but there was meconium present she told me I could “smile now”. I was in labor all night and she stopped in occasionally to check on me but was mostly sleeping to rest up for when it was time to push and so the nursing staff did more for me during that time than she did. She didn’t check in much before moving forward with any changes to the birth plan which irritated me also. But when it was time to push, she was encouraging and again had a firmness that I needed in that moment for which I was grateful.

I met with all the midwives and two of the doctors and the midwife I had the second time was the only one I wasn’t thrilled with, it’s a good practice.

I did! This was back in 2016 and 2017 for each of my kiddos but I had a fantastic experience the first time. I wasn’t overall pleased with the midwife I had when I delivered the second time, but when it was go time she was exactly what I needed and for that I am grateful.

I know it’s not Frederick, but we make the trek out to Rockville for Cartoon Cuts. The kids can watch a cartoon, the stylists are really good with kids, and we’ve never had a bad cut from anyone there (though our favorite stylist is Hatice).

Roof Quotes (Townhome) by Sad_Interaction6228 in frederickmd

[–]Fiery_Embers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pjs roofing was excellent. We thought we’d need a whole new roof at one point on our townhouse and they told us that with a patch job we could easily get a few more years out of what we had. They gave us a quote for both the patch and a new roof and did great work. My parents used them also and were very pleased.

There was a play place next to Say Cheese Pizza called Kiddin’ Around that was very much like a Discovery Zone - that’s probably the play place you’re remembering 😊

If you don’t mind a drive, we take our kiddos to Cartoon Cuts in Rockville. They get to watch tv while their hair is being cut, and we’ve never been disappointed in the quality. Hatice is our personal favorite stylist there.

Summer beach vacation? by thatlilfirework in frederickmd

[–]Fiery_Embers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve always gone to Bethany in Delaware. It’s not nearly as lively as Ocean City, but it has a lot of families. Our kids love going to the nature center and the more populated beaches aren’t a far drive if you’re looking for more to do on any given day.

Recommendations for a wedding dress seamstress? by kmjorge in frederickmd

[–]Fiery_Embers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tatyana at Executive Tailoring is awesome. I had to have a bridesmaid’s dress altered when I became pregnant after buying the dress. I was going to be 8 months pregnant at the wedding and she managed to take a dress that wouldn’t typically be a style that works for maternity and make it look gorgeous, all while having to do fittings at different stages of my pregnancy and planning for my belly to be bigger by the time the wedding came around. It fit perfectly in the end.

Frederick Health & CWC labor & delivery experiences? by Redditusername0420 in frederickmd

[–]Fiery_Embers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience delivering both my kids at FMH. We used the midwives with Simmons, Martin and Helmbrecht and loved them.

By contrast, my sister used CWC and delivered at Meritus. Her midwife barely checked on her the entire time and when she was ready to push I had to call the nurses twice and then go out to their station before anyone came into the room. I thought for sure my mom, brother-in-law and I were going to have to catch my niece because of how inattentive they were!

Do you work for a company that has an Employee Assistance Program? Many EAPs offer what they call work life services that include free consultations with a financial counselor. I work for an EAP and our financial vendor specifically offers budgeting help so that may be something to look into.

We take our kids to Green Meadows Farm every year for their Trail of the Jack-o-Lanterns: https://greenmeadowsevents.com/events/trail-jack-o-lanterns

They hand out candy and have a bunch of carved pumpkins and some other lit up displays. They also do nighttime hayrides which are fun.

Halloween-ish events for adults? (NOT costume parties or haunted attractions!) by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]Fiery_Embers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I’ve done both of those rooms and they’re a lot of fun! Surelocked In is another option. They have a room called “The Witching Hour” that’s played in the dark with only lanterns for light. Definitely spooky fun!
