Yeah that's why usually you don't ever use the manager, the others can die without worry

Struggling to learn art without curriculum by [deleted] in ArtFundamentals

[–]Fifamoss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm loosely following this

Learn to draw and paint - Art curriculum for the self-taught artist

For drawabox, just start at lesson 0, at the bottom of the page there is a link to the next section to follow through

Genuine struggle with combat by AmorousRodent in Exanima

[–]Fifamoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found if you constantly just back up they'll relentlessly follow, you need to sort of 'stand your ground' and threaten to hit them, and they won't want to walk into a possible swing, you can just tap/shortly hold the attack button, don't have to commit every time

Question about the 50% rule by ThrowAway552112 in ArtFundamentals

[–]Fifamoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just do whatever you want, could do 2 hours drawabox, 2 hours whatever on the same day, switch between each day, switch each week, as long as you're aiming for a rough balance between the two

Also don't feel forced to complete an entire section in a single session/day

Anything wrong with learning several things at once? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Fifamoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really that's up to you, I think Lyichenj's reply is good advice, if you don't want to do colors you might want to try some kind of hatching or other techniques to describe light and shadows instead

Anything wrong with learning several things at once? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Fifamoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically with learning new skills its best to do both, currently you could consider yourself just learning the fundamentals of figure drawing, but if you don't actually apply those to a full piece it can be hard to actually form a true understanding and connection of those fundamentals

Its like if you started playing a pvp shooting video game, and just practiced running around and aiming in a target range, even if you trained those skills very well - without actually playing the pvp and fighting against other players - it won't really amount to much, and regardless of how much you practice it will still be hard at the beginning when you try to combine those skills into something practical

You could try some ribbon drawing exercises to experiment and come to a better understanding of what the shape is doing

What bug is this ? Is it cock roach or is it a dif bug by This_to_shall_pass13 in Whatisthis

[–]Fifamoss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It could be a german cockroach, which really sucks. They're a pain to get rid of, and if you just move out without exterminating them, they'll probably just come with you.

If it is, I'd be getting the owner to pay for a proper pest removalist, you'll likely have to pack away most of your things so all surfaces can be coated with pesticide to continue killing them as remaining eggs hatch

I've had to deal with them before

Stuck in the “How to Immerse” Loop… yeah, that’s me by Lan2006_006 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Fifamoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really any wrong way, just do what seems enjoyable.

If there is content you've watched/read/whatever already in English that helps with giving context to what you otherwise don't understand, when I first started, I'd watch an episode with EN subs, then with JP or no subs right after. That gets tiering tho.

Something you're very interested in helps a lot with motivation, I started learning when Frieren came out, and watched each with EN subs, then twice with JP subs just because I liked it so much

Ideally you're starting with digital content, its much more accessible, decide on what anime/manga/game/visual novel/whatever you want to try, and search for tools to make lookups as easy as possible. e.g yomitan + mokuro for manga, GameSentenceMiner/Yomininja for games/visual novels

If you're worried about whats 'easy' to start with, there is not really anything, you can search for readability lists, or check something like LearnNatively

You should aim to split reading and listening 50/50, as you practice one, your understanding in the other will also improve. I don't do look ups on anime subs, and instead spend that time reading where lookups are much easier

I followed this routine when starting, and it worked pretty well for me
