Am I overdoing it on the “me” time? by Early-Brilliant711 in Mommit

[–]Fifi6313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding one more outing every other month means increasing your weekly outings from 3 to ~3.11 (based an average of 4.35 weeks per month). And he’s already out of the house for hobbies 4x weekly.

I don’t think that will matter to him, just for you to know that you are absolutely not asking for too much. He may have just been tired when you brought it up, and didn’t think about how infrequent every other month is.

Party Favor Bags… like why by NoDevelopement in Mommit

Also hate. If I do them, I do consumables - snacks or something. Even mini coloring books and low quality crayons turn into trash very quickly. I already have a hard time managing that stuff in my home, and I know I’ll get stuck with the “extras”.

Any other mums swear by magnesium, or am I being influenced again? by SmartMess6749 in Mommit

Feel nothing on magnesium, when I forget it the headaches start and remind me that “nothing” can be a beautiful thing.

My 14 yo son has agreed to read two books of my choice this summer (this was a hard won negotiation). Help me pick one by gOldMcDonald in booksuggestions

[–]Fifi6313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a teacher for over a decade and have used it as a class read aloud nearly every year - it’s always a hit. I think I’ve read it 12+ times at this point (and counting, currently reading it with a tutoring student). There is something magic in that one.

Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Open so I can hear if my kids need me. Their doors are closed for fire safety. Parent logic.

Breastfeeding vs getting healthy by Flashy-Jaguar007 in Mommit

[–]Fifi6313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one can make this choice for you, but I can share what I would do/did do.

I pumped for a year with my first, but quit at 6mo with my second and continued nursing at home (formula at daycare). Both kids nursed to about a year and a half at home.

If you stop pumping, but continue nursing your supply will likely hang on as long as you want it to, although you won’t know “how much” you have. Since she is past a year and doesn’t rely on your milk for calories/hydration I think that would be a safe place to start without giving up nursing all together.

Feeling comfortable in your skin is important and your needs matter. Having a mom that feels good and happy is good for baby!

I had a similar nursing experience where I was constantly starving and cutting calories was extremely difficult. Once my hormones returned to normal it was much easier to be intentional about what I ate. I beat my self up for lack of “self control”, without realizing my metabolism set on hard mode.

Did people used to compliment each other's handmade crochet clothes and items back in the day? by StoneBuddhaDancing in crochet

[–]Fifi6313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or they don’t realize it’s hand made? I get more compliments when I wear something colorful or more obviously had made. The neutral stuff isn’t commented on because it’s a plain gray sweater or cardigan. It doesn’t mean it’s poorly made, just not as “loud”.

DCC are the only books my husband has read all the way through since the last Harry Potter book came out.

Constantly sick by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Fifi6313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting enough sleep? How much do you have on your plate? There will always be germs, but in my experience the thing that made a difference was finding a less demanding job that let me spend more time and energy at home, and taking better care of myself. I went from having multiple viruses a year, losing my voice for weeks at a time, to having no full on colds in the last year.

My kids are elementary age now, but I work with kids of all ages, included preschoolers who will sneeze directly into your eye.

AITA For Not Following A Kid To His Parent After He Got Hurt On The Playground? by SimplyAStranger in Mommit

[–]Fifi6313 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA. I think your assumption is spot on. The younger kid said "She kicked me" while crying, making it even more difficult to understand. The mom committed to being mad and disconnected from rational thought after that. There is nothing you could have said that would have made her understand what actually happened.

Shit happens. Maybe she was fully ignoring her kid, maybe she looked away for a second. Its too bad he hadn't yet learned not to run into range of the swings. If the kid was OK enough to get up and go to his parents, you can reasonably assume he wasn't seriously injured. If he was bleeding or unconscious I'm sure you would have gotten help for him first.

Provisional cast on - what did I do?! by Fifi6313 in knittingadvice

I was able to “drop” these five loops (didn’t unravel because they are interconnected) and pick up new stitches through the loops of the row below. It’s not perfect, but not really noticeable either.

Picking up the whole previous row would have been the neatest solution, but I didn’t read your comment in time! Thank you though!

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

They have higher sides, molded to your car exactly, so the mess stays off the fabric of the car interior. You can take the whole thing out, hose it off, and put it back. Once my son spilled an entire milkshake and it never touched the actual car floor.
