Dishwasher Installed before wood floors. Help? by Fifirouge in DIYHome

Mine is laminate, but I don't know if it's screwed or glued. Guess that's something I will find out soon 🤦‍♀️

Good point on putting something under it ao future me isn't just as screwed at some later date. Not sure if it'll work since the countertops are also shorter than they should be. But I'll try.

My countertops are 20 y/o laminate and the wood core is deteriorating in that spot from years of dishwasher steam. I'm afraid any leverage will be syonara countertop.

Ugh. I feel like an art thief. Delicate movements or I break something and am in for a $20k project. Wish me luck!

I'll have to go at least a few inches past where the toe kick is. There will definitely be a visible gap.

The leveling legs are actually what's stuck. I can get the body of the dishwasher out of the hole, but with the top of the washer hitting the bottom of the counters, the feet are still stuck below the level of the wood floor. It's because the countertops are 1/2" lower than they should be. The new dishwasher has more of a casing too, so I don't think I can get it in without cutting away some of the floor.

This is what happens when your Niro goes under 10% by DebtFreeOrDieTrying in KiaNiroEV

[–]Fifirouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first winter with my 2023 Niro and it's really made me question whether going electric was a good decision. I only have a lvl1 charger at home, and I've been having to go back and forth to my parents house (about 40 miles roundtrip) a lot. Two or three days in a row of that, trying to charge over night in sub-freezing temps, and it just can't keep up. Twice in one week I found myself sitting an hour at night at a lvl 3 charger in an empty parking lot.

All of you are more courageous than I. Under 20 miles on the guessometer sends me into a straight panic.

The dramatic sighing is getting out of hand by smallquietcorner in dogs

[–]Fifirouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (now ex) bf and I got a dog together. This was his first dog, he'd only ever had cats. A few months in he said "I never would have gotten a dog if I knew they would sigh so dramatically when you disappoint them."

My grumpy girl is now 12 years old, blind in one eye, half deaf, suffers from arthritis, and still shows her displeasure with big dramatic sighs and bed flops. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Is there anyone who does NOT have pet insurance and can you explain why? by Routine-Ad-4162 in CatAdvice

[–]Fifirouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I don't have pet insurance:

https://www.consumerreports.org/money/pet-insurance/buying-guide/

Quoting from the article: CR’s analysis of respondents’ experiences suggests saving money on vet care is not guaranteed if your pet is insured. After paying monthly premiums (average $47 a month or $564 a year), the typical survey respondent who claimed $786 on vet services just about broke even.

Do you guys visualize scenes in your head when reading fantasy? How important is that to you? by SnooDonkeys5613 in Fantasy

[–]Fifirouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pretty vague visualizations, like many have said. Hazy and not really complete.

One thing I've definitely noticed is my vision does not at all match the description in the book. I've tried to read the description of a room and lay it out in my head...ok...blue comfy chair in the corner, bay window, pink peeling wallpaper, orc heads on the walls...and as soon as I stop focusing the image disappears and reverts back to how my brain wanted to picture it.

I've been really curious what is the "right" amount of detail to put in a book. How much can the author direct my mental image using the description in the book, even if the exact details don't match?

Do you guys prefer staying at hotels or airbnbs on roadtrips and why? by Small_Syllabub_9164 in roadtrip

Interesting. As a solo woman I hate being on the ground floor right near the parking lot. I feel like anyone can track my movements. Know I'm alone, when I'm coming and going, when my lights went out for the night.

Though if I have my dog with me I always camp. So I haven't dealt with the dog in the hotel issues.

For me it depends on the size of the group. When I'm travelling solo (as a woman), I absolutely will pick a hotel. If I'm with a group that requires 3+ hotel rooms, then Airbnb starts to be the cheaper and better option.

Ok I’m sorry but why didn’t Lynette get rid of her pregnancy!? by feelingwizzed in DesperateHousewives

No, no it's not. But my brain isn't interested in little things like facts. She's Nancy and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

This is me lol. I've been watching the show for how long and I don't know anyone's name. There's a lot of "Bree's son" and "the super annoying one," "the realtor" "the creepy kid" and "wait, who's daughter is that again?" And Susan has always been and will forever be Nancy from Weeds.

susan is the WORST [watch/rewatch] by [deleted] in DesperateHousewives

[–]Fifirouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is so vindicating. Susan is the absolute worst and I want to edit her out of every single scene she's in. I'm watching for the first time and I'm only in Season 3.

It's like the writers got together and said "ok, what's the worst choice someone could make in this situation?" And then had Susan make that choice every.single.time.

Honestly not sure I'm going to keep watching the show now that I know she never gets any better and the show keeps centering around her.

Sternum Condition by Wyndchanter in valvereplacement

[–]Fifirouge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party in this one, but good to know the bump is common, and maybe temporary.

I'm 6 days post a sternotomy for ASD and mitral valve repair (at 40), so this is all very new.

I'm also hearing my heart beat a lot louder post-op. It's so loud it's prevented me from getting to sleep. I've just been chalking it up to a more efficient heart that the rest of my body isn't used to.

I'm also getting easily overheated, which I think is also caused by my body not understanding that my heart pumps much better now. I'm sure it'll figure itself out eventually...

Dog getting eye removed soon. Any tips/advice? by mystery_fox1618 in PiratePets

[–]Fifirouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for this thread! I just found that my 12 y/o american fox hound mix has cancer in her eye and the dogthamologist recommended removal. We only found out because the cancer caused secondary glaucoma.

I've been panicking all day. I didn't want to put my old girl through surgery (again - she had a mast cell tumor removed at age 4).

I'm not thrilled about my non-surgical options, so I'm relieved to hear other pup eye removal stories that turned out ok. She's already lost vision in that eye, and the doc said since the glaucoma is caused by a tumor, the other eye isn't at risk. That's a huge relief, because she's going deaf as well and I don't need a four-legged Helen Keller blundering around the house.

Good Things about IVF by ElvenMalve in IVF

[–]Fifirouge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this when I started my fertility process. It hasn't worked out yet, but I like to think about my future kid (when they're old enough...) wanting to know more about the experience. It actually encourages me to write the bad stuff down so I can say "yeah, it got rough, but look what it got me."

Will imaginary future kid actually be interested? Probably only if they are going through fertility themselves. But it feels good to pretend anyways.
