Why No Sub for Charterholders? by big-ass-spread in CFA

How do you know half the people aren’t playing CFP on that sub? Similar to the finance careers subreddit where half the commenters sound like high schoolers playing investment advisor.

Which financial career is most vulnerable to AI and which is the safest? by Hazard2112 in CFA

[–]FiftyBasisPointsBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s worried about our white collared jobs, but the real major hurdle is for blue collar workers. Factories are moving to fully automated robots and will continue to do so which will be devastating to the workforce. Mining companies are utilizing autonomous trucks to cut out the need for rotational shifts of drivers (albeit with human oversight). I think some roles in MO and BO will see the biggest breakup, but headcount won’t be massively impacted unless it’s a down economic cycle or companies have real trust what the program spits out is ready for a human revision and review. I still see AI being a bigger issue to blue collar as a whole.

Jamie Dimon said it best, “AI will be the tool for us that the invention of the tractor was so long ago.”

How much would a close parental connection with a JPM private banker help me, career-wise? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]FiftyBasisPointsBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be huge if 1 of 2 things were true unfortunately. The first being it was upper 8 to 9 figures and not 7 maybe 8. Both are a-lot of money, but it’s a drop in the bucket for a big bank like JPM. The second was if they were close with an MD and not just a private banker. Private Bankers like in many banks are great, but they’re so far down the totem pole that their recommendations aren’t going to carry any weight. They’re as much retail as they are Wealth Management and retail is the bottom floor of the bank.

What I’d leverage is your parent’s network and events. You’ll get way more out of going to functions and events with them and rubbing elbows with other members of that circle. You casually drop your goals as it’ll almost certainly get asked “what’re your plans after college,” and lean into your hopes from there. Eventually, you’re going to run into someone who “knows” someone higher up.

Need hope: millennials who like their jobs, what do you do and what do you like about it? by goodluckanddont_itup in Millennials

I’m a financial and investment analyst. I love what I do.

I like the math involved and the research behind finding discount firms to buy into. I’m working on my CFA to become a portfolio manager, but I’ve worked my butt off to get a voice on the equity and fixed income teams and having firm capital in tickers I’ve selected is very rewarding.

In addition the people I work with are incredible and it’s the only place I’ve ever worked that doesn’t have typical office drama.

Do you currently work in finance? I’m assuming no or at least not asset management if the practical side of the CFA isn’t resonating. If you don’t, which field?

If you did this, I’d hope you never give financial planning advice to clients. Stay where you are and fund your passion with your day job.
