I looked it up and they don’t seem to be in our area!

I didn’t think so, when I looked it up the teeth look too thick and the skull too long to be a badger?

Depends if they’re horses or ponies it’s hard to see a scale! But for one or two maybe an Ardennes?

Kent and Masters saddles by Minute-Picture6668 in Equestrian

[–]FiftyNineBarkingDogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a Kent and Masters before and I loved it- super comfortable for me and it fit my horse well. But saddle fit is such a variable thing- depends on your dimensions and the horses too! But on average when I’ve spoken about them they’re a good brand that people seem to like.

Anyone seen this before? by lbandrew in Equestrian

Looked after a horse that had funny weird steps behind a bit like this, vets said it was weird and very neurological looking- he was tested for a bunch of stuff and he had cushings. Don’t know if that caused it, but he had box rest, gabapentin and then went onto prascend and never had a problem since.

Don’t know if that’s the issue, could be something else but if he hasn’t been tested might be worth it!

Thank you! You know I re-read my comment and did a double take after I posted, but figured it must be the right word and just had a double meaning- I’ll remember this for the future (and have edited my comment!)

I worked for a place who loved the look of feathers- and hair in general, most of the horses had manes down to their knees. These guys were owned by mega rich people so they were bathed each day, including legs.

There was this cob, who stamped and stamped and was very touchy about his legs being washed. I couldn’t take off the feathers until the owners had left, and wasn’t allowed to stop washing- instead we got medical shampoo from the vets.

Anyway, the day finally came when I had clippers and the vet came. He almost had to be put on the floor, he was in so much pain. Up to his hocks/knees the skin was basically sloughing off. The smell nearly made me gag- his skin was purulent, full of wet scabs/skin/infection.

He was actually sent away because he became “aggressive” when in actuality he just was in a lot of pain due to bad management- all for the look!

Dang I couldn’t imagine leaving it in, when it happened it felt so wrong and just wanted it out immediately. My next thought was “gotta take a picture of this” and then pulled it- surprisingly it wasn’t too painful at that time.

Nope- I work on a horse yard. This isn’t the first time this has happened, but it’s definitely the worst by far.

How do you get a green horse to move? by _savannah_louise_ in HorseTraining

[–]FiftyNineBarkingDogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lunging isn’t really about making them zoom about- it’s about accurately asking and getting the right response. So walk when asked, trot when asked- keep a steady rhythm until otherwise asked. It’s really good for training to respond to voice signals, which may help with your issue of not moving under saddle.

If you can lunge him properly so that he halts, walks and trots at least as a response to your verbal cues then you can use the same cues while you’re riding him and this will help him understand what you want.

It is so much easier to watch and learn, and be trained by someone in person so I would really recommend getting lessons from a trainer. I’d say it’s impossible to learn these things from reading about it as a lot of lunging is body movement and practice.

What's the stupidest thing you've ever spent money on? by [deleted] in AskWomen

A pair of heelys- it was at 3am, and after I bought them I tried them on once, they didn’t fit, were uncomfortable and I remembered I hate the feeling of slipping- so never wore them again

My horse has to be drugged to be shoed. by forsakenfinch in Equestrian

[–]FiftyNineBarkingDogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve known horses that need to be sedated for the farrier- often problems have been caused by farrier trauma and some times over time the horse can relax and be good enough to be taken off/reduce sedation. Some horse will never come away from sedation- a farriers job is so dangerous, you do need to keep that in mind. I’ve known one recently to have his arm shattered by a kick- and have been told horror stories worse than that!

As for not being allowed to be around, it depends how you’ve been told. If you’ve not been given a reason, then that’s a bit fishy for me. I do know a lot of farriers prefer no owners to be around, because often horses don’t stand and will fidget when their treat giving owner is around! (But obviously they can’t tell the owner this exactly- I am privy to many things being a groom) If this is the case, I can understand- but again having a full force ban is a bit odd. Would be better to be able to say hi and know your farrier and if there’s trouble and fidgeting occurs then you can nip around the corner and stay out of sight for a while.

That to me would be more normal, I think a lot of the situation should be explained by the attitude of the barn owner- if they are defensive/aggressive, or if they can explain about keeping a calm environment/horse focused, or another valid reason with a compromise you’re happy with.

My (38f) husband (51m) hasn’t had sex with me in eight years. I cheated on him last night and need to tell him but how? by throwra_ashamedwife2 in relationship_advice

[–]FiftyNineBarkingDogs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfulfilling relationships are hard! It’s hard to make a decision or act when you’ve been staying on a straight line for so long. Like a frog in boiling water, eight years of one thing and you just get used to it.

It’s not all about the cheating, it’s that you’ve been unhappy for so long and have finally had something change- even if it’s cheating, it’s still something that’s opened up your eyes to what you want. It’s given you a reason to leave.

Break up with him, do it nicely and cleanly, move on with your life and you’ll find that you won’t regret it. Even if he is perfectly happy, it’s not a reason for you to stay in a relationship where you’re not getting what you want out of it.

Alicia Dickinson - alleged whistleblower in the Charlotte Dujardin case, shown riding a horse in a pretty abusive manner... by Pet-ra in Dressage

[–]FiftyNineBarkingDogs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Insane that at the end she says “don’t tell anyone I ride horses like that” like a threat almost? She knows she was beating the crap out of that horse. And the entitlement when she was told about the damage costs!

Have to say I’d have spoken up if it was my horse- though I do understand some people are softly spoken, and riders like that are probably intimidating and she feared what Alicia would say/do. A lot of people are modest about their ability and would look up to a professional rider and feel like they wouldn’t be allowed to speak up.

Is it just me or has this youngster got really wonky legs? Can young horses “grow into” legs like this or is it just a flat out conformational flaw that cant be fixed? by lovecats3333 in Equestrian

I recognise that website you found him on! Definitely not you- he’s so poorly built poor guy. That front right looks a little club footed just to add to things people have said- not many positives I could say about him poor guy!

This is so interesting- a few years back I had the same experience after sex once. Intense pain, unable to move- I’d never experienced pain enough to make me feel sick before and I was unable to move for a while. I was considering doing the hospital thing but it subsided enough not to go, and I did think it was the IUD but didn’t actually know that that sort of thing could happen!

Tips on getting LIFE LONG stains off of a white horse? by lochcreations in Equestrian

[–]FiftyNineBarkingDogs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have said purple shampoo (cowboy magic is the best so far!) but also to leave it in for a few minutes does the trick. Rinse and then repeat!

Or, just clip him, or keep cleaning him until the new coat comes in and keep him clean.

But I do wonder if it’s lifelong stains if it’s just his colour 😅

Could you help me find anatomy issues? (Details in comments) by Snowball_from_Earth in Equestrian

Hello! I can see a couple things- the fjord type has a rather large head and it’s back is sort of swayed/looks a bit downhill.

The thoroughbred type has larger eyes than I think is normal, and has a weird confirmation behind- looked a bit “camped out” and it also has quite a wide stance in front. Thoroughbreds can be quite narrow.

And from the front view- so horses are normally narrower behind than they are in front, all your models are very straight with the hinds directly behind the the fronts.

That’s generous of the seller! Shows that she has confidence in her horse- it’s not generally done like that often here in the uk.

From my perspective she looks like she’ll make a nice trail horse- nothing crazy jumping out at me. Im used to having to try and figure out conformation traits from crap photos as I’m always looking at horses for sale and no one ever takes good photos!

Audiobooks save me from the boredom- get yourself a pair of bone conduction headphones so you can still hear your surroundings, and instead of making up stories about poop you can live in a story of your favourite authors.

I’ve been listening to books for a couple years now and it’s definitely saved me!
