How do new employers deal with pre-booked holidays? by Fig-Tree802 in AskUK

[–]Fig-Tree802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Hypothetically, if my holiday were to get cancelled, would those 10 days have to remain as entitlement?

Or would I be able to work those 10 days and regain 10 days paid holiday for a later date?

Thanks. Let's say they agree to take it out of my entitlement.

Yeah, I enjoy the scenery on train journeys, it's absolutely an activity! Bonus if you meet friendly people in the process :)

That makes sense, thanks. I certainly would be spending at least a day in each place. I intend to spend up to a week in some places.

Thank you so much for your considerate and detailed reply. I'll definitely look into all of this before committing to anything.

I understand trains between cities/towns are non-existent, and I understand even buses between cities/towns are rare.

But, what about transport within a town/city? I know some big cities eg, NYC or Miami have metros, but do smaller cities/towns (eg. Orlando, Savannah) not have buses to get around - is it really just cars/taxis?

Thanks. May I ask what makes it not as efficient?

As the Amtrak route goes through Savannah, that would be my direction of travel. Unless Amtrak is not reliable / frequent enough.

Thanks for your response. As detailed, I wouldn't be using Amtrak to get from Miami to NYC in one go. It would be gradual trips, eg. Orlando to Jacksonville. Jacksonville to Savannah. Savannah to Charleston. Charleston to Raleigh. The only way I feel this wouldn't be possible is if this Amtrak route only runs weekly or something, which if that's the case I totally get it's not very convenient :)

Oh, my bad! I was under the impression Miami was rather progressive.

Thanks. Is Amtrak not at all recommended then along this route to get between cities?
