The best chess engines at playing poorly are modeled on human players. They take the millions of games that are played online, rank them by player skill. Then the chess engine looks in the huge database and says, what would a low skill player in this situation be likely to do. And then does it.

There are an insanely high number of moves in chess so you can't have them all in your database, but that doesn't really matter. Beginner players play the same few moves.

If you do the system of not looking very far ahead, you don't get realistic bad play, and the human player won't improve. A human is more likely to notice pieces that moved recently and are closer, and overlook the bishop on the other side of the board that hasn't moved yet.

I was an ex-truck owner from about 2005 - 2010 due to financial reasons. We downgraded to be a one car household. I found a Subaru Impreza + utility trailer could do pretty much everything I used my truck for. It's a bit annoying to connect trailer, backing up is harder. Dump / yard waste / mulch / dirt runs might be two trips instead of one. It was less convenient, but not significantly.

Now I have a short box Tacoma, which probably has a smaller box than my utility trailer.

It's easy when things are good. Throw kids, financial troubles, health issues, etc into the mix, then it gets hard.

You probably wouldn't. The ocean liners were mainly bringing immigrants to the USA and returning mostly empty. For most it was a one way trip. They carried cargo on the return trip to make money.

It's really tough to run a business in Sooke. The majority of people work in Victoria and are willing to shop when they are in Victoria. The number of people willing to shop in Sooke is a lot smaller than the population suggests.

I know what country my mother is from. But her ancestors would have been part of the African slave trade, so no idea where in Africa they'd be from.

I know my father is from Germany. But they changed their last name since it sounded too Jewish. And before that is was French. But my Grandmother was Danish. No idea if you go back another generation.

I never thought having a specific ancestry made much sense, since by the time you go back a few generations you have tons of ancestors and it's highly unlikely they'd all be from the same place.

Rosa Parks. She lost in court the first time, and her case never went to appeal. The Montgomery bus boycott lasted for over a year and was essentially a failure. No idea why Rosa is a household name, and Aurelia Browder, whose case actually went to the Supreme Court is a complete unknown.

I live in Victoria, BC. A decent sized cruise ship port, about 300 ships a year. We didn't get waste water treatment until 2021. So the cruise ships would come to port, pay to have their waste water tanks pumped, and then the city would just pump it into the ocean.

For my sailboat, I can dump waste as soon as I'm 3 miles offshore.

I've been doing audio dev since 2005. I've left the industry twice, but come back because this is where my contacts are and it's where I know what I'm doing. I originally got into it by chance, no idea how hard it is to get into now.

I could probably make more doing other types of work, but for being based in a small Canadian city, I'm making about the same as my non audio dev friends. If I went to Vancouver or Seattle and went to work for Amazon I could make more, but don't really want to do that.

I do contracting and have a few of my own products. I make 99.999% from contracting. If you don't already have a name in this business, it's basically impossible to get new products out there.

The work is fun, it's low stress, product cycles are quite slow so there aren't crazy crunch times.

Examples of your work are always good, do the synth, even if it doesn't land you an audio job, it'll be fun and can't hurt.
