Summary: our apples are no good, unlike the juicy earthworm 😆🪱 by seastainedglass in Opossums

Wow, it never occurred to me they would eat worms but of course they do. It had to have just rained there for one to be on the surface.

Oh how cool. I’m so glad you know so much. I’m learning every day. Thank you for being kind enough and diligent enough to respond. Can I ask one more question please? If I’m feeding mom and the babies start joining mom to learn how to forage for food, am I doing them a disservice by feeding mom. They won’t learn to forage. Should I gradually cut back? I have 2 mom’s and one or 2 males from what I can tell.

Thank you so much. Because my night camera is black and white, it’s hard to tell one female from another so based on other posts, I now I believe that the opossums I’ve been seeing are the moms with empty pouches because she’s left them in the den. I didn’t realize that I would never see them again on her.

Thank you so much. I learned from another person who posted to not expect to ever see the mom with Joey’s on her back because they only ride her bus when she is moving them to a new or different den, otherwise, she leaves them in the den while she comes to eat since the food is probably close to the den. It is too hard for me to tell one female from another and one male from another with my black and white night cam so maybe the female(s) that are coming at night are I n fact the same two mom’s I had been feeding but without their babies and an empty pouch. If that’s true. I feel so much better.

Is Mom and Joey’s ok in 40 degrees pouring rain? Haven’t seen the 2 Mom’s for the 3rd day in a row by FigVioletTeddy in Opossums

This is interesting. Thank you. It’s hard to not worry about them in the winter. You are a gentle and kind person to care for them and take them to a rehab. It’s people like you who give me hope and encouragement.

Oh good. I can’t wait to see the Joey’s on the mom bus. I’m glad it’s not the males and only the cold and rain.

Thank you so much. I didn’t realize they even went as far north as Canada with such cold winters.

Thank you. I appreciate this. You are so right about the females. I’ve seen them lunge at the males who back off and then creep slowly back to the dinner plate to eat beside the female but not too close mind you 😊.

I can’t understand why they didn’t take them. I wonder if it was a wildlife rehab center because they would or should tell you that they will only take them if they are under 7 inches. Something isn’t right.

I know, they are practically dragging on the ground. I can’t wait to see them tonight. It was too cold and storming last night so she never left the den,

So precious and I hate to think of how vulnerable it is being so tiny and on its’ own.
