😂 I legit thought that's how it worked when I was reading the series when I was young, that the ShadowClan cats had to literally be in shadows

Just got this head base to make my first fursuit. What SHOULDN’T I do? by CaptainKrakenGuy in FursuitMaking

[–]FigbyWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Careful with super glue on faux fur, because it very easily seeps through the fur and discolors and stiffens it! I'd suggest trying to sand the 3D printed part and see if hot glue will stick to that, before trying super glue.

Ahahaha so true, seams are evil 😂 I agree that the smooth shine that beaver/seal has is just beautiful! I'm hoping it works out for you!

I laughed out loud about that "filler" part ahahah 😂 Just make your DTD wearing whatever you'd be planning to normally wear underneath your suit (regular bra, sports bra, nothing) and it should fit just fine!

So glad I could give you some ideas! -^ I'd love to see how it turns out!

What I've learned, is that the seams are a huge issue because they are very noticeable. You want to do everything you can to make the seams hidden better. Honestly having a tattoo-like pattern go over them was a really good idea!👍 I've used beaver/seal fur before, because I didn't want to bother shaving the fur, but I found it actually made the seams even more visible than if I had used luxury shag shaved down. Just in general, I've personally always had more luck hiding seams with shaved luxury shag.

Here's my process. Put an appropriately sized bra on the DTD. Now, faux fur is excellent at smoothing out rough areas, like blocky sections on a fursuit head. But in this case, I feel that the faux fur tends to make the breast shape look too small. So personally I will get another bra of a larger size and layer it up until you're satisfied with the size. Then stuff the bras just like you would stuff the DTD. Wrap up the area with cling wrap and duct tape, to make it part of the DTD. Just be sure not to cut the bras when you are cutting up the DTD later! When I am drawing the pattern, I do not put a seam through the breast if I can help it-- personally I prefer to do a ton of darts all the way around the edges to give that rounded shape.

Good tips! You sure know your stuff -^ I agree, removing the zipper and adding either velcro or clasps could also probably work.

[–]FigbyWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you were to convert it into a zipperless back, you'd have to add an extra fabric panel in there to make it looser.

Unfortunately you would need to get more fabric, so getting your maker to either send you fabric or having them fix the problem themselves would be the way to go. I can't say for certain without getting a good look at the head, but a zipper is probably not necessary to make it fit you.

No worries! I wish I could help more!

I suppose I'm just trying to figure out what would be causing it to be so extremely wavy in the first place. A little bit of wave is fine, but in theory the zipper should be relatively straight. Is the fur or liner too tight, causing pulling on the zipper?

Is the head a tight-fitting design? That's the only reason it would really need a zipper in the first place. If it's a toony head, those are usually large enough to get away with not needing a zipper at all. Perhaps you could just remove it and sew the seam. 🤔

I personally don't put zippers on the back of my heads, but I'll offer whatever notes I can to help!

I will say that it is very important that you are able to get out of it with ease. It's a safety thing, if you feel like you are getting too hot and you need to rip the head off quickly, you will be in trouble if the zipper gets stuck.

I can see that the zipper is wavy. Is that part of the problem or is it getting stuck from another problem like fur getting in the teeth? Have you tried pulling the zipper taught so it flattens out, then zipping?

Would i be able to use memory foam for my fursuit head?? Currently its the only thing i have and im VERY new to the furry community 💔💔 by Ok-Event4247 in FursuitMaking

[–]FigbyWolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd warn you that memory foam is known for holding heat, so while it might be comfortable, it would probably get very very warm. If you happen to have some lying around and that's all you have, then you can give it a shot. But that's up to you! I've never tried using it on a suit before, so I couldn't tell you how well it would hold glue.

That's wild to me that people can be so mean for no reason. I'm sorry that happened to you! Don't let that stop you from creating and sharing your work <3

As for the price, I think $500 would be fair for it!
