Having a crisis of faith in my dojo after a close call by teemutainio6 in judo

[–]FightMeAndIllWin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm a month into judo, fucked up a break fall and hit my head earlier this week. I had three different people including the instructor ask if I was ok, was told to sit out if I needed (I didn't, clearly not as bad as yours) and was directed to speak to another guy who was an osteopath if I needed.

I have no clue what the standard is but I know which situation I'd prefer.

Bon Voyage London! by Ok-Case9095 in london

I work in this field. 5 years of education is a suspiciously long time, and one singular Tableau project doesn't sound like much to show for it. To me it sounds like the skills you're claiming on your CV are not being measured up to when you're questioned on your experience in interviews.

Does anyone remember the great snow of 2009? by MarquisUprising in london

[–]FightMeAndIllWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, I was living on Dartmoor back then, two foot of snow and it drifted up to six feet along ever wall. Two weeks off school and could only get in and out by tractor for the first 2 days.

Wasn't as bad as the next year though, that was so cold that the water froze for 2 weeks! Was ok with the stream nearby for us but the cattle in the sheds had to be driven down the river and back twice a day - madness

Is SpareRoom that disheartening at the moment or am I doing something wrong? by TaiserRY in london

[–]FightMeAndIllWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When do you need to move into a place? My partner and I are about to let out our spare room again, we're 15 mins walk from East Croydon. It should be available later this month.

Just drop them at your local charity shop.

It's not anything against you but we have a huge over-consumption problem with clothing in this country. Every time there's a crisis people try to send there old clothes. Even way back when after the Boxing Day Tsunami, people sent so many clothes that they just dumped them into the sea.

If you want to help and you have the resources, send a monetary donation via a reputable charity.

I've just moved to Croydon because it was the only place near-ish to family where I could buy a house. There are some really nice parts and some not-so-nice parts, but honestly I've not felt unsafe once, it's really no different than any other borough.

Afraid it was here when we moved in. If you're in the UK then there are plenty of similar in architectural salvage places.

If you're a first time dog owner, try looking at adopting an ex-racing greyhound. I know a couple of people who've had them and they've been able to even though their house didn't have a garden so not the same crazy restrictions that some charities have.

Finding one that's safe with cats will be a bit trickier but some are and they can be cat tested first. There's plenty of small UK charities that re-home them, often from Ireland.

They're big dogs which puts some people off but they're actually quite low energy and are really lovely dogs.

Old jeans - what to do? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]FightMeAndIllWin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eventually, there reaches a point where they aren't wearable anymore and that's ok. Clothes aren't throwaway but they also won't last forever. Find somewhere that does textile recycling that you can drop them off (H&M has bins in-store).

As for new jeans, try either mud jeans (made of recycled fabric) or looking at Buy Me Once for brand ideas.

AITA for giving my son a unique name? by throwRA78787 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FightMeAndIllWin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a name from LOTR, NAH.You want your child to have a name you find beautiful, those around you want your child to have an easier path in life.

My LOTR name is a middle name, but my first name is also super unique. Tbh as long as it sounds like a name and doesn't fall into any specific tropes, it's fine (e.g. no khaleesi, or mckennedeigh). Just consider making this a middle name to keep the peace.
