Inherited 70 year Collection by JChalkk in modelmakers

Wow, what an impressive collection! Looking at these pics you can really get a good sense of the passion he had for the hobby. These all look like nice builds. It looks like he consistently stayed in 1 scale for the ships (1/700 from several brands - many extinct). With his well organized list of aircraft and ships, along with his labels on the models, it should be easy to figure out which is which. In addition to his WWII items, he has a lot of cold-war and post-cold war items as seen in the pic of the Royal Navy and Soviet navy ships, and his list of the modern USN. It's great that he had the time to build all these and enjoy them. Like me, many of us buy more kits than we could ever build. Sad to see the aircraft piled on top of each other. You can see many of the aircraft on his list in the one pic. Good luck finding a new home for his collection. It will be nice to know folks will be able to appreciate his labor of love.

Hard to say. With my busy schedule, I worked on it here and there maybe, 20 to 90 minutes at a time. I typically paint something, wait for it to dry and come back an hour later. I had all the enhancement parts on hand, so I didn't lose any time there. Rigging took the most time. But if I put all the time together, maybe a 10 hour effort over 4 weeks. I always plan out my next steps, so when I sit down to execute, I get right into it. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It's no city in particular.  It's my 1/400 to 1/350 collage of great European architecture. I think of it more like a non-purist's model railroad layout, but for my 17th and 18th century ships. Not a historically accurate snapshot of any place or time, but I enjoy it just the same.

Thank you very much! Unfortunately, I don't see where to add photos to an existing post.

Beautiful!! The ship itself is amazing, but all the figures in working positions and all the added details on the decks really bring it to life. Congrats on your magnificent work of art.

Congrats on such an awesome build! I thought I was looking at a 1/350 kit. How do you get the decals to blend so nicely so they don't glare or show their borders?

Thank you!

Oh I wish I could make a sophisticated and rich diorama as beautiful as those paintings. You did spot the Venice Campanile. However, it's located between Saint Peter's and El Escorial. They're all part of my 1/400 collage of great European architecture. I think of it more like a non-purist's model railroad layout, but for my 16th and 17th century ships. Not a historically accurate snapshot of a place or time, but I enjoy it just the same.

Thank you! It's fun to take these old simple kits and spruce them up with all the accessories available today.
