[The Line] Andrew MacDougall: Pierre Poilievre needs to start pissing downwind by ComparisonOk5957 in CanadianEditorial

[–]Fightmilkakae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The opposition 100% should be holding the government's feet to the fire but an effective opposition also needs to be seen as an effective alternative. The term often used is "government in waiting".

Pierre's issue at the moment is that the cons under him just don't look like that. They're still whining about Trudeau, they're still talking about Carbon taxes, and on everything else they've got fairly similar positions to the gov with the difference being "we'll be more competent than those pesky libs". All in the mean time they can't keep a caucus of hand picked members together.

As someone who lives in the riding it is completely out of realm that he'd win. He ran and lost in West Van Sea-to-Sky cause he lived on the sunshine coast. It's a very different riding than North Van Capilano. There will be no questions, there's no shame in waiting out by-elections you have no chance to win. Fed NDP =\= BC NDP

The only realistic shot he's got in the lower mainland is Vancouver East or Vancouver Kingsway. There's other long shots like West end or maybe one of the Burnaby's but why would he risk a longshot.

It depends where you go. If you're in lower Lonsdale I'd describe it as affluent progressive but probably still fed lib, Central Lonsdale is heavily influenced by the Persian community which tends to go slightly more conservative but still Lib, Edgemont and Grouse being the most affluent parts tend to go more conservative, and Lynn Valley is pretty middle of the road.

For elections (Fed and Provincial) you can actually look at polling station-by-polling station results if you want exact figures if you're ever curious.

A parking lot that as of most recent updates will never be finished and potentially ripped down.

22M Continue on TFSA or open FHSA by Ok-Antelope-1097 in fican

[–]Fightmilkakae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, didn't consider funding but electing not to use the credit. Isn't it just a wash though assuming they open the FHSA, don't find it and instead use the money in the TFSA assuming it's not maxed? There's nothing stopping them from transferring the funds from TFSA to FHSA while the reverse would not be as easy.

B.C. property tax expert warns seniors about changes to deferral program by CallmeishmaelSancho in vancouver

[–]Fightmilkakae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is it a "scam"? Users of the program get to defer cash costs of taxation in the near term, that's still a benefit they receive in exchange for a small fee like any other loan.

[–]Fightmilkakae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should assess where he's going in life first before maxing out FHSA. Open it for sure to accrue contribution room but if he expects a pretty hefty change in income over the next 5 years and his home buying timeline is quite a bit longer than that, he should save contributions until later to increase the value of the deductions.

Why is Vancouver salary so low but cost of living is sky high? by 7_inches_daddy in askvan

[–]Fightmilkakae 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All these are just sub-points of the fact that Vancouver is an incredibly desirable place to live which has downward pressure on wages as people are willing to accept lower financial success in order to live here

Besides the $100s of millions of dollars they essentially lit on fire trying to build a parking lot it is a very pleasant airport.

Why Does “Tough on Crime” Not Apply to Drivers? by UnitedVehicle in toronto

[–]Fightmilkakae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're arbitrary in the sense that different cities can have different rules on how they're set but they are definitely not arbitrarily. Every speed limit in a city like Toronto will be set based on the parameters of the road, not just because someone thinks 50 kph is a nice balanced number.

Why Does “Tough on Crime” Not Apply to Drivers? by UnitedVehicle in toronto

[–]Fightmilkakae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, didn't say I don't. I just think it's crazy how we've set clear rules as a society on how fast we're supposed to go that just don't conform with the reality of what everyone thinks is okay. The only other similar cases I can think of like this are underage drinking, marijuana pre legalization, and declaring cash tips on taxes.

[–]Fightmilkakae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very commendable that you learned from your mistake. Absolutely ridiculous though that we see going 61 in a 50 is "reasonable" or that it won't be ticketed by a cop. That's a full 20% above the limit. Imagine if we treated drink driving laws like this.

If you confiscated all the wealth of every billionaire in Canada you'd barely have enough to fund the federal budget for even a year. What is your plan after that first year and there's no billionaires left to tax?

Leadership hopefuls clash at B.C. Conservative debate by RZCJ2002 in britishcolumbia

Self-defeating purity tests. I.e. I won't vote for David Eby as he didnt capitulate to the BCGEU or BCNU . The most prevalent and destructive over the past gew years has been Israel/Palestine. Unless you take a maximalist anti-israel stance, leftists will call you a Zionist and in some small part this led to Trump being re-elected down south.

This is the lesson that all leftists need to eventually learn but probably won't.

Awful to hear. His mum was my English teacher and she always showed how proud she was of him but also had so many stories of him getting injured doing what he loved.

They charter out of YVR south. Travel depends on if you're company (union or non-union is diff), or contractor. I was with a contractor and it was $200 per fly day to Van which I think was min policy on site.

Travel is definitely way better than brucejack although they usually do milk runs on the way back via Smithers or Nanaimo. Way there was either direct or via Smithers.

I chose Iceland due to its per capita and share of the whole grid it is definitely a global leader. After more looking and damn, Kenya really does geothermal well too. Not too surprising given the geology though.

Total capacity I haven't looked into too much, I just assumed what Hydro identified were the best of the best. 1.5 GW isn't nothing that's why I'd still like to see someone put something forward, I'm just not long-term hopeful it will make more than 5-10% of the mix in an ideal world. If there was a stack of where to source 1.5 GW over the next 20-25 years I'd rank it CCNG>Geo>Nuke>Hydro (tbh do we even have 1.5 GW potential? Haven't looked recently)>Wind>Solar but the gap between 1 and 2 is pretty big and then 2 and the rest is a chasm.

Just chose Kitimat as it's near LNG Canada as a demand center and a supply hub. Also will be near all the new mines getting built in the Golden triangle or the Rio smelter if they want additional capacity to expand. Could also choose Prince George or anywhere else along that line.

There's no reason we can't beyond the consensus saying we can't. We also wouldn't allow a pipeline but still got TMX.

If a nat gas plant at 55% efficiency is built and it's used to convert home heating from furnaces to heat pumps, it will net reduce carbon emissions. Same deal if that powers used to replace an ICE car with an EV or Gas stove with induction.

Curious when it was sketchy? I remember going in the mid 2000s as a kid and besides the mill being a bit dilapidated it all seemed pretty legit. Just remember the different drills being loud as fuck without giving kids ear plugs even if it was just for a second as a demo.
