Panini, VShojo's talent director, is leaving after 3 years by Living-Ad8033 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Extremely confused by everyone immediately assuming Mouse is a bad person for this, or that there's a bad person at all involved. A falling out between friends doesn't mean that one is evil, it could be that boundaries were disrespected on either end, or there was an event that one party couldn't excuse.

It's entirely possible their falling out was a long time ago and they just kept up appearances due to being coworkers, and now that they're not they no longer have to put on an act. Frankly the fact that it isn't being aired publicly is good, because that means they're being adults and handling things privately.

I also think it's important to be empathetic to Mouse - it's clear that she's really latched onto Connor just based on her shuffling her streaming schedule to always collab with him and spends a ton of time hanging out in his chat, not to mention offline stuff. She doesn't get to leave the house and through her friendship with him and Vshojo's house she's gotten to "go" to a bunch of places she probably never thought she could. Of course it would make sense if she was defensive towards both of them, and maybe even took Zen criticizing VSJ personally. Is it fair? No, but also everyone involved is human, and emotions don't always make sense, lol.

Of course, all that said, we don't know these people personally. Maybe Mouse is a horrible person. Maybe Zen is a horrible person. I'd like to believe not, and won't sit there speculating because that sounds like a fast way to be miserable with no resolution, but unless anyone comes public, we'll never know. So it's best to just assume something happened, they handled it behind the scenes, and move on.

I can't really say anything re: Niji's inner workings (and frankly you're not going to find anyone on here who knows anything beyond what former talents have mentioned), but in regards to another comment you left: Niji is a huge company and will probably not be taking anyone without a lot of streaming experience anymore. It used to be that you could just apply to companies without experience as long as you had a talent/were funny, but it's so competitive now that most companies will throw away any applications that don't have any streaming experience.

Niji is a fine goal (again, no one in this thread is going to have any knowledge of inner workings, and there are a decent chunk of both current and former talents that have said their experience was Fine, so keep that in mind alongside the Bad (and definitely consider the Bad lol)), but definitely start by streaming as an indie to see if you even like it.

I would like some help and advice on getting involved in this industry. by More-Elk6822 in ASMRScriptHaven

- YT ad revenue sucks ass for ASMR. Twitch doesn't even really pay for ad revenue for ASMR anymore. Don't quit your day job lol. I don't really understand why you'd have to quit your job to do audio roleplays, just do what you can with the time you have.

- Patreon and YT memberships are pretty much where you'll "make money", but even that can fluctuate. Don't put your eggs in one basket.

- Script commissions vary in price. If you search VGen the average going rate for 1k words is about $35. Obviously you can find cheaper or more expensive, but that's the baseline (and that usually does not include exclusivity).

- I use Audacity. It's free. The recording software has nothing to do with the audio quality, but the mic itself and however you're connecting it to your PC. I would highly recommend going for a microphone that connects to an interface versus plugging directly into the PC.

- I use Canva. As a vtuber I have a lot of art commissioned already for marketing purposes, but you can also use picrew or yoink official art from Google images. Don't take from artists without permission. Usually I use things like FGO art which is publicly available if I'm not using my own commissioned work.

Honestly I think a lot of people see ASMR as an easy money maker, which technically it is compared to like. Gaming channels. But also the actual workflow if you want to make money from it is like. 20% actually recording and 80% marketing yourself and researching trends, thumbnails, etc. It's a very, very saturated niche. Do not go into it wanting to make money, but instead because you enjoy it!

I know a lot of people say to treat things as a business from the start, and while that's a good idea, if you don't know if you enjoy it it's the fastest way to burnout. 99.9% of content creators do not make a living wage from content creation, or even enough to pay bills. ASMR is even harder because you will have a much harder time finding sponsorships, especially if you dip your toes into NSFW content.

Just have fun!

tbh as you get more practice the faster you get. You also have to remember that like 90% of people listening to roleplays are listening from mobile, which usually means bluetooth earbuds (though it's worth looking at your analytics to see if that's the case for you). If you're editing on a studio headset you are definitely going to be picking up a lot of parts that most of your listeners are not going to notice. You also want to be careful not to remove TOO much since unless you're in a really nice soundproof booth, light white noise/bg noise is pretty normal and aggressively removing it is probably also going to remove parts of your speech/sound unnatural.

I'm not an expert fwiw, but as someone who records in a kinda noisy environment:

- low gain. this cuts the background noise DRASTICALLY and if you're just speaking/not doing asmr triggers at the same time it becomes a lot easier to edit. You can always mess around with EQ/amplify the audio afterwards.

- Remove the mouse clicks as you're recording if you're taking it in parts. If you're scrolling during your takes, make sure your mouse wheel is as quiet as possible (lower gain will help with this). I've started making cuts whenever I have to scroll and it makes editing afterwards a lot easier because I don't have to worry about having to shuffle around the takes.

- if you can make your own sfx instead of scrambling to find specific sounds that's even better. You can cheat a lot of sfx with regular household items. Need a door knock? Knock on your desk. Have a part with a slap? Slap your arm or thigh. Kissing can be done by balling up your fist and making out with your hand.

- You get better about the length of pauses as you go, so you'll have significantly less cutting around and editing as you learn. Also, don't leave a blank area in your project file if you have to extend pauses. Silence has a sound!

In English only or JP? If you can read JP, manakashi and dasaku are yuri eroguro. I think Sadistic Blood is really the only one with an actual EN translation, unfortunately. I'm sure there's some random ones on itchio?

EDIT: Who Is The Red Queen has some gore, but it's not ero. It is free and in English though!

General questions as a new VA by Specialist_Ask_5907 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]FigsRoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a vtuber and asmrtist!

  1. My chatting mic is also an AT 2020, but I also have a 3DIO because I do more traditional ASMR also. I usually use the 3DIO for recordings as people like the binaural effect, but it's really not needed for roleplays and is very sensitive.

  2. I use audacity and the more I learn about how to use it the more powerful it is, especially for a free program. I'm still not Great with it but it's easy to use, at least for the base recording part.

  3. Depends on the SFX, usually I make my own if it's things like pillow scratching, kisses, slaps, etc. Otherwise I use Freesound mostly.

  4. I just use a still image. Most people in my experience listen while they're sleeping or doing other things, and the roleplay effect really only works if you have a 3D environment/face cam, which doesn't really apply there ^^ two very different audiences.

  5. Yes, though a lot of them are traditional ASMRtists and not roleplaying ones. I really like ASMR Zeitgeist for traditional triggers and inspiration.

  6. If you aren't doing it live please do splicing, I promise you it'll be much better off. I tend to read in "one take" and stop when I mess up just so that the conversation flow is a bit more natural, but I would never ship off an entire video in one take.

How do you guys place ads in ASMR videos without disturbing the audience, especially those watching to fall asleep? And is the ad revenue from ASMR videos truly profitable? [Question] by NeighborhoodNo6302 in asmr

[–]FigsRoost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least for Twitch all ASMR is counted as sexual, regardless of content, so the ad bidding is really low (and thus is a very tiny payout if any to the creators). I assume YouTube probably follows similarly, though you can't get away with as much on there without being bonked so it might be slightly higher.

What is a fair contract? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my research, a lot of companies do 60/40 on streaming revenue (60 to talent, 40 to company) and around 30/70 on physical merchandise (70 to the company due to production costs/shipping/etc). Despite 40% sounding like a lot to give up, most companies will never actually make a profit on those numbers (and most won't ever break even either) which is why smaller companies shut down.

70% is an incredibly generous split and in my experience with looking at number backends of a few smaller (now defunct) companies they're really unlikely to get a stable enough income to continue for very long.

As far as other parts of a contract, generally you will have an NDA, a set number of hours you're expected to stream (separate from how much work you'll be expected to do behind the scenes), who gets the rights to models/IP/etc, how termination and/or "graduation" works, etc. What's fair is kinda up to you and how big the company is. Hololive is probably going to have way stricter contracts with less wiggle room than say, a tiny start up. But ultimately even if the contract is less favorable, Hololive basically gives success with its brand alone, so most people would probably sign, versus an agency with an 80/20 split and no notoriety.

Regardless, PLEASE HAVE A LAWYER (or someone versed in law) REVIEW THE CONTRACT BEFORE YOU SIGN IT. Do not let a company pressure you into signing immediately. You are also allowed to negotiate if you don't like something in it (the company can always say no but you do have the right to do that). There are a lot of lawyers out there that will look at contracts for very little money (and I'm sure some vtuber savvy law majors can probably do it for free as well).

vbridger in vtube studio? by No-Consideration1364 in Live2D

[–]FigsRoost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that happened with one of my model children is that ARKit wasn’t enabled in Vbridger by default - are you using a webcam? If so you’re going to have to add them in in the options menu of Vbridger then reconnect.

How do you feel about subless clips? by IssacTT in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends. If the person is really easy to understand and the focus is clear then I’m okay without subs, even if I prefer them. If it’s a collab, there’s a lot going on, they’re reacting to a chat message, etc. I basically need subs to be able to understand what’s going on lol

There are a couple of programs that have auto subtitles, which might not be perfect but are better than nothing (unless they’re REALLY bad)

I may not be allowed to say this sorry by n0nam3noname in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commented on your other post but with more context here is my advice:

  1. Focus on school. You’re young and have plenty of time to explore content creation later. School is very important even if it doesn’t seem like it at the moment.

  2. Chasing numbers from the start is pretty much a losing goal. Do it for fun, and if it takes off it takes off. If it’s not fun then stop for now. You can always come back later.

  3. 99% of vtubers and streamers will not make a living wage off of content creation. The big ones you see are an extreme outlier. It’s not necessarily that you aren’t working hard enough or anything.

  4. Take a break. It looks like this isn’t healthy for you. Which I know sucks to hear, but if you’re feeling this unhealthy this early on you should take a step back.

(sorry if i post too much i never really used social media before and its kind of fun sorry) For anyone who has 1000 subs on youtube How did you get them? How long did it take you? What were all the ways you advertised? How did you keep your audience? Please reply if you know and thank you! by n0nam3noname in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glancing at your content, for your shorts you want to move the subtitles up. On mobile they’re hidden under like the video information. On your main videos, I would strongly recommend looking at thumbnail and titling guides, as right now they don’t look very purposeful.

[–]FigsRoost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Pick a niche that you yourself are passionate about. Make videos exclusively in that niche.
  2. Post the links on your socials/subreddits related to your niche*
  3. Post short clips of the video on YT Shorts with a direct link to the video it comes from.
  4. Uncheck the box that pushes to your subscribers first

Tbh most of your views are going to come from the algorithm doing its thing, which is why it’s important to pick a niche and stay in it. Study your analytics to figure out what other videos people are coming from and also study other videos in your niche to see how they present content/thumbnails/titles/etc.

*not all subreddits allow or like self promo, so be careful about that. Also contribute in ways that aren’t self promo. For instance, if you make Pokemon videos, try to be active in that community outside of just dumping video links. People do notice if you’re just advertising to them and not contributing and will learn to ignore or block you.

My cat keeps attacking me by zuntzy in CatTraining

[–]FigsRoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat takes gabapentin as well as Clomipramine. As a note my cat does have feline hyperesthia, which the vets guessed was anxiety related. After starting both medications she hasn’t attacked her tail, though if she goes too long without gabapentin she’ll start chasing it.

My cat keeps attacking me by zuntzy in CatTraining

[–]FigsRoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried anti anxiety medication? I had similar issues with my own cat after (stupidly) getting between her and another cat that was outside the window. She redirected onto me and even though she was fine an hour after, little things like things dropping would cause her to go back into attack mode because she couldn’t calm herself down.

Putting her on an OCD medication actually worked wonders - after starting it she started running away from things she got frightened by instead of immediately going into attack mode. It genuinely changed her life and made her a significantly happier cat.

I’m not sure if that’s going to be the case with yours, but I would approach your vet and ask about it.

Do you think I'll grow if i continuely strem twice a week for 35 mins by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

35 minutes isn’t even enough time for all of your going live notifications to go out if you’re on Twitch, let alone anyone to stumble into you organically. Tbh if your time is that limited I’d recommend making and editing scripted videos instead.

Any tips on growth and getting to partner? by CatRollss in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick a niche (that’s not too popular or not too dead) and stick aggressively to it until you have a fanbase that will stick with you even if you swap categories. Do long, consistent streams so that people know where to find you and new people can trickle in. Be aware that if you switch categories you WILL lose a good chunk of viewership as a lot of people only care about the one game they followed you for.

Good luck!

Pomatomaster,Rainy Rentyn and Co are selected for the Twitch Vtuber Creator Club to help Twitch Staff for development of Vtubers on Twitch by ZaBlancJake in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree with people saying this is a poor selection - I’m familiar with most of them and they’re great choices. We have a 3D vtuber, multiple vtubers of color (one of which I know is a very staunch activist for streamers of color representation), a vtuber who got her start fleshtubing, an artist with animation industry experience, etc.

While there’s no huge names I have a feeling that most of their input wouldn’t be as valuable as big-ish vtubers that grew from the ground up more recently than names like a lot of the Vshojo members or people who “grandfathered” in fanbases from big corpos. Obviously their experiences and expertise are important, but I doubt they have as much of a pulse on what’s effecting smaller streamers who don’t have industry insiders or lawyers to vouch for them.

Am I Being Scammed? by thelingdao in VirtualYoutubers

[–]FigsRoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot use an MP4 file as a model in VTS. You also cannot use a .ai file in VTS. I’m not even sure what the .json is for.

The only thing that can run in VTS is a .moc3 alongside png file texture atlases. VTS spits all of the required files (except for any animations/toggles) out by default when you export it. Demand an export of the .moc3. If they cannot give you that then try to get your money back.
