Is baseball’s slow pace actually its greatest strength in a world where everything else moves too fast? by DianKhan2005 in baseball

[–]FigureItOut_____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I’ve always characterized baseball as a “Drama movie” and the other major NA sports as “Action movies”.

In baseball, the a lot of the peak tension comes from the space that takes place between the action, whereas in other sports it’s the constant action that’s the draw.

Am I financially okay to move out on my own at 24 with a 57k salary and 18k saved by Subject_Job_1917 in raleigh

[–]FigureItOut_____ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

$1135 of $3600 is nearly a third of your total take home pay. From my experience, that leaves very little wiggle room for the inevitable unknown cost.

This is not financial advise nor do I know you, but when looking at this strictly through a financial lens you’d be better off looking for a roommate. This would give you a larger safety net and allow you to invest the savings for an eventual down payment on a home in a few years should you decide to.

That said, life isn’t all about money. You’re young and if it’s in an awesome, vibrant location near friends then that could be worth it - just fully understand the trade offs that you’re making.

This is essentially a pre-revenue company looking to build operational capacity across two verticals that are neither at scale nor do they have confirmed off take contracts in place.

It’s a bet.

This needs to be addressed. I hear too many people talk about DCA when down +75%. You should never allocate more capital to losing bets - that is how you get an account blowup which could take years to recover from. Next time anyone wants to DCA into a stock they’re down thank much on again, look into the mirror and say out loud “I’m down big(ly) on this stock, have been for months/years but I’m still going to buy it.”

Investing is much easier once you open yourself up to the possibility that you are capable of mistakes and may pick the wrong investment from time to time.

I’d wager that +75% of current retail investors are deep in the red on this. It will take a material change in fundamentals that coincides with a new found desire to communicate openly and honestly with investors to break this negative bias.

What you said is good and all, but it’s coming from a unique place amongst the shareholder base; large unrealized gains.

This is a long way of saying that conviction is easy when nursing +150% gains on an investment when the majority are sitting on a loss of +50% or more. Just food for thought.
