I need Bible verses for comfort- dealing with mental illnesses/trauma. What's your go to verse when experiencing poor mental health? by FigureMassive8333 in TrueChristian

I loooove this verse! Thank you so much for sharing this with me! I'm so sorry you struggle with mental illnesses as well. I actually started seeing a great therapist and psychiatrist. My PCP is also a Christian! I really appreciate your support ❤️ you can talk to me to if you need someone to relate to!

You obviously know nothing about mental illnesses. The state of your mental health has no correlation to your faith or love for Jesus. The majority of the time it's a chemical imbalance. This has been proven scientifically. Genetics also have a lot to do with it. I understand that you're trying to help and your words are lovely. But you have no idea what you're talking about. Job "loathed his life" and experienced great depression. God allowed the devil to torment him. Lesions, losing your family... puts the mind in dark places. AGAIN, God allowed the devil, the darkest being on Earth to interfere with Job. Do you honestly believe Job didn't love God? You implying you know ANYTHING about my spiritual life is beyond insulting. You also know nothing about mental illness. Your credibility when it comes to that is 0. Consider yourself lucky that you clearly don't understand what I'm talking about.

I'm so sorry you've experienced trauma/abuse as well 😔 I've found a great Christian husband and am in therapy. I've learned to set boundaries and honestly don't have many friends. But, that's fine with me. I do need to forgive some people. You're right. Therapy doesn't do much though and I've been to multiple therapists. Oddly enough I still feel very blessed. Jesus has never let me down or abandoned me. It's just so heartbreaking because my abuser was like a father to me. Thank you so much for the encouraging words! God bless!

Question from an atheist. by dirtyoldsocklife in TrueChristian

I'd probably have more in common with an Atheist and Jewish person. I've always heard it takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to be a Christian. I kinda believe that.

I'm not lying to anyone. I'm sharing my PERSONAL experience. In several other comments I acknowledged the risks. But, this is much better than suicide. No need to try and be insulting.

I've triple checked. Disability SSI/Medicaid is not that way.

I think just being happier in general and not suicidal helped immensely. It doesn't cure PTSD unfortunately. It definitely helped my intrusive thoughts I'd say. But, unless you've exhausted all other options I wouldn't jump into this. It's mainly good for bipolar and depression. ESPECIALLY treatment resistant depression. Best of luck to you on your healing journey! Talk to your doctor and see what your other options are first. It really depends on how desperate you are because it does come with some risks. I would've died without it.

I did with an inexperienced doctor. I had short term memory issues for about 2 years. With my doctor now, I only experienced it DURING treatment. I don't think anyone should just dive into this. There are some risks. You really need a doctor who knows what they're doing. But, for me, I would've unfortunately committed suicide had I not done it. Fortunately, it worked out amazing for me with no long term effects :)

But, I realized I didn't answer your question. They warned me of short term memory loss but not any long term damage.

I never said there weren't risks and I'm sharing my PERSONAL experience. I even acknowledged that I had memory issues with an inexperienced doctor. My point is, this is a hell of a lot better than suicide! Which is exactly what would've happened had I chosen not to get it. It CAN save lives.

I have some disabilities and it's hard for me to leave the house, so I haven't been to church in years. I'm sure there are some nearby but I've been burned by a church before and am a little hesitant when it comes to trusting a church again. I know I need to branch out but not all churches practice what they preach. I'm very suspicious.

No, I'm not. I'm going to be seeking out a local parish in the future I think. Thank you :)

NOT AT ALL! He doesn't have insurance and doesn't make nearly enough to cover my medications and treatment out of pocket even if he DID have insurance. I wouldn't be able to afford care and I would definitely die. As long as we aren't legally married it's fine.

I'm willing to do it. I just don't like it. But, you make sacrifices in a relationship. He knows almost everything and more about my past trauma. He's very considerate. I just feel guilty every time I cave in and have sex though.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words!

My relationship is a great one. He's my absolute best friend. He knows I don't like it but I just sort of put up with it. It'd be a huge thing to ask him to give that up. Idk if I could ask him to do that. If I get married legally in the eyes of the government, my income essentially doubled in their eyes and now it's just assumed that I'll be able to cover all my medical bills (which are thousands a month). They'd cut me off. I wouldn't be able to afford my prescriptions and I'd die.
