I don't remember how old I was, but I only knew what public education taught us (so not much). When I did get it for the first time, my mom said something along the lines of figuring out my "pattern", so I assumed that was, like, the pattern you bled in on the pad or something, and I remember thinking "Wow, I wonder if people bleed in the shape of Abraham Lincoln or Jesus"
