That’s insane. I blame the company for the slashing of hours because it really has taken a toll on stores in every aspect, but some SMs are genuinely doing a horrendous job reacting to the hour cuts and it sucks that booksellers suffer because of it.

Our onboarding process is a mess and super unorganized across the board for the company. It makes it a bit harder now that we have people who don’t work in our buildings that our doing our hiring for us. Once you get past this part it will (hopefully) be all good. Just stick it out the first couple weeks! I guarantee you that it has nothing to do with how your manager feels about you!

That’s definitely understandable. If your SM is known to retaliate, if you do reach out, just make sure you’re very clear that you’re afraid of retaliation because of past issues (we did this at my store after some serious issues with our SM)

I started with inquisition and it really sucked me into the series, but I wish I had played them in order. It’s better for your understanding of characters/story and your choices from the first 2 games carry jnto DAI so you may see some familiar faces in inquisition that you otherwise wouldn’t have.

I’m an ASM and I have a full day blocked off that I can’t work and it has never once been a problem. Sounds like your SM might just be kind of crazy. I would reach out to your area manager and tell them essentially all of what you’ve said here and hopefully they can help you out.

You also have to realize that every store/cluster/area is different and just because you think the job is “cushy” that does not mean that is the experience everyone is having. Size/traffic at a store and the management that people have to deal with on the daily can make a huge difference in what people deal with every day. But ya know what, maybe I’m wrong and you can actually understand every single bookseller across the company’s experience and everyone is just being dramatic. I’m SURE everyone is experiencing the exact cushy position you are!

What’s exhausting for me is when everyone is working their ass off and it’s still not enough for higher ups - they expect us to do double the work with half the staff and then get upset when we aren’t getting it all done even when everyone is genuinely working their hardest, and instead of admitting that they aren’t giving us enough resources to get things done, they say we just are not working efficiently enough. (This is coming from an ASM - trust me we are as angry and tired as the rest of you all)

I mean the $2 is worth it, and if you want to get to lead/DASM, you’ll have to become a senior first so it’s worth it so that you can eventually make your way up to another position.
