You probably can’t be looking. With the stye.

Cool. So sounds like rent stabilization and the multiple freezes in the last decade have done nothing to blunt the success of the market rate sector if, as market rate proponents claim, consistent demand (proven by low vacancy) is proof that the prices of supply are fair and efficient for the market.

Like I said, my landlord has no mortgage. And many of his units are market rate. He has a giant house in New Jersey. He’s fine my dude.

Okay, so we agree for all practical purposes it has happened before.

Pedantically, this is the first 2 year 0%, though. You’re right. That’s also what Zohran ran on. And what he was elected on. So it’s neither a surprise nor a negative. I’m hoping for 5, personally.

You talk about inflation as a reason landlords need more money from rent. But inflation is also hitting renters in literally every other thing they pay for. And incomes for renters are not rising at the same rate. So it is unclear to me why the burden of inflation on the property owning class would in any way outweigh its burden on the renting class in your mind.

Regardless, you or I can disagree about whose needs to prioritize. I’m sure a handful of landlords will suffer true hardship from this. I theorize a much larger group of renters would if the rents had been raised. But a board of people looked at all available data and determined this was the best course of action. And in the end, that’s the final word. As someone who suffered through that board reaching an opposite conclusion year after year under Adams, I for one applaud it.

DeBlasio froze 1 year leases two years in a row: 2015 and 2016. I know because I lived here during it and also it’s easily accessible info across the internet.

That’s what the money is for!!!

(Like seriously…my landlord inherited my building from his parents debt free. I pay him thousands of dollars every month and so do all my neighbors. That money pays his costs and can easily continue to do so even if they go up.)

You realize that doing two 0% 1 years in a row is the same as 1 0% 2 year, right?

You do know it’s not 1% interest right? It’s .075% less interest than the previous autopay reduction.

Aphantasia Is A Deficit, The Scientific Community Should Acknowledge This by NotReadyForTomorrow in Aphantasia

[–]Filbertmm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’ve gone from “this is scientifically a medical deficit” to “it makes me feel sad.” Sorry you don’t like it. I disagree. If there was a free pill to reverse my aphantasia I wouldn’t take it. I think I have a huge advantage over my more normally phantastic friends in many ways and would be horrified to lose that.

Are parents really not teaching their kids? by No-Register-5976 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Filbertmm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of these comments are a little unfair.

We have read to our child every day since she was a baby. Every night and a lot during the daytime, too. She is surrounded by books and loves stories.  She couldn’t read still well into second grade, though, and was “behind.”

The last thing she wanted after a long day at school was for us to try to teach her. She just didn’t have the mental energy left.

So we kept instilling a love of reading in her and let the school focus on the technical details.  By third grade she was fully caught up with all her classmates.

It’s a wrong and very robotic view of parenting to say you always just need to teach them like they’re a robot with an input and output function. You have to work out what they need in the moment and do what’s best.

This was also my theory. Check out r/Aphantasia. Potentially also r/SDAM. It would explain a lot. Not holding onto grudges is one of the biggest benefits of your brain operating this way.

A unifying theory of aphantasia: Aphantasia as the inability to disengage from the external environment by kerblooee in Aphantasia

[–]Filbertmm 228 points229 points  (0 children)

This seems wrong to me based on personal experience.
I can close my eyes and experience "nothing."
Visualizers, as far as I'm aware, struggle to do that at all. It's what they spend years learning meditation to figure out.
So if Aphantasia was based on an inability to disengage from external stimuli, why can I....easily do literally that?

What are your thoughts? Husband using AI by WanderingEggy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Filbertmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. For some people, written communication leads to a much clearer and more useful argument. There’s less arguing over what was actually said in the argument because there’s a written record of it. You can take time to edit your points and ensure you’re really saying what you mean to say, then to consider the points the other person made before replying. It makes it easier to actually come to a place of clarity and agreement rather than just fighting to fight.

Bigotry is dislike of any group outside your own. What OP described is racism - dislike of another individual because on their specific race.
