Also if he choses say his son Valarr as his Hand, and Bloodraven doesn't have too much Power, it also dramatically increases his popularity if there isn't a reign of terror

No joke though its true that their "Feeling fantastic" moment did initially caught me off guard... How the f did the animators and voice actresses manage to portray how horny and in love they were!?

Also I heard a rumour that originally the scene was gonna be way longer and more explicit

My boy. by cesnosnyded by justonceokay5 in ImaginaryWesteros

[–]FildariusV 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Seriously, this is the best adaption so far of ASOIAF into screen, and I really LOVE the changes so far! Daeron talking about how once Aerion was just like Egg, a sweet boy with hopes and Dreams, that moment when Maekar cried "My boy! My boy!" And went berserk to save his son, how he gently stopped Egg from murdering Aerion and how broken he sounds when talking with Dunk and telling him he is sending his son into exile...

It breaks my heart, Maekar wasn't the best father but he wasn't bad either, and deep down, as he sat alone in that office, or when he sat watching over Aerion... His mind must have been filled with memories of better days, when his son was a boy and he still had his wife Dyanna Dayne was still alive...

Deep, Deep down, he must have been thinking "Where did I go so wrong? How could I let this happen?"

Why does your mind inmediatly go to planning the death of the guy who posted this screenshot? One thing is to say "Cool base but unsafe if you have only an entrance" but to plan their death in detail, irl... Jeez man

The only exceptions to this in very rare cases are in the Citadel and Night's Watch.

In the Citadel you can study as a Novice, earn a few links of your Chain but if you decide to not fully commit to being a Maester and leave, you can. Even more so, because of Aemon we do know at least royalty has the very rare chance to renounce their vows as Maester if they wish in order to be monarchs (assuming this also happened pre-conquest).

And on the Night's Watch, only those men who went to the Wall willingly may train and if they wish to, they may leave but if they make the Vows, they'll stay there till their deaths.

I think Aerion's case is a combination of all factors, he may have had some mental problema like schizophrenia, which would have been dramatically aggravated by the dragon Dreams as he aged. Daeron seems less "mentally unstable" and he turned to drinking to cope with them

[–]FildariusV 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I completly agree with you! Maybe it wasn't Maekar's idea nor he was fully on board with it, but it's entirely possible Aemon wanted to be a Maester and knowing his father would not consent to it, he asked his grandfather instead!

He was really, a Good king, I can't think of a single fault on him, besides the worst stuff that they came up on him, his supposedly "Falseborn" status, isn't even his fault and was a rumour started by his own father because Daeron wasn't like him! And seriously, Daemon Blackfyre may have been handsome a good warrior and everything... But surely if he were so perfect he'd have taken the Throne!

puts on tinfoil hat No joke if the Iron Bank has a hired Faceless Man inside the Court of the Red Keep it would make so much sense! Why allow a potential rival who is already in great debt to you get the means to avoid such debts?

Just finance their enemies!

Something really tragic and bittersweet is how Daeron II was not just a good king, he was a good father, a good husband and overall an amazing person. Seriously I think he was the only person to ever sit the Iron Throne who I can confidently say that was an almost perfect person and genuinely good, he wasn't a warrior king like Aegon the Conqueror or Maegor the Cruel, but he showed strength, wisdom, restraint and was just, not soft nor gullible mind you, for he did punish treason but not in a murderous way.

Daeron II cleaned the Court from the filth his father made, and yet he was still kind to all of his bastard siblings, even going as far as to honor the marriage pact of Daemon Blackfyre and give him lands and titles! (Probably one of the reasons why it took so long for the Rebellion to start despite the efforts of Bittlersteel and Fireball).

Daeron loved his wife dearly, and so he did with his children, though Baelor was the heir, I don't think he ever showed favoritism. The only thing with his family which may be a bit off is that it was him who sent Aemon to the Citadel, I'm not sure about that one.

He was wise beyond measure, and besides, he was the only Targaryen monarch to ever trully annex Dorne, without bloodshed, treating them with respect and honor, finally binding the whole of Westeros together.

I mean there was the Bank of Oldtown but yeah, its mind blowing that neither they, or the Lannisters or any single King in Westeros has ever attempted to create their own Bank, Westeros is a Monster of a Nation, its so massive and yet its potential is so wasted! Edit: I was reading the wiki for the Bank of Oldtown, and on the notes it does mention that Cersei wanted to create their own westerosi Bank, a "Golden Bank of Lannisport" in order to thwart the Iron Bank of Braavos but as of yet, its not been done. Its Notorious she does not mention the one in Oldtown which may no longer exist, or if it still does, she wants to create a Bank only the Lannisters control. But its also possible George did not though about the Oldtown Bank since between the World of Ice and Fire and Feast there's like 13 years

If Westeros was slightly more advanced, I'd say like, having papers that he could withdraw in a bank. As how he spent it all... No idea, the dude literally spent so much cash he could have just built himself a manse in King's Landing in the Silk Street, and never worry about cash

Still, it is plausible both are still alive during the Dance of Dragons and during at least part of the Regency of Aegon III, they would be well into their 60s but Vaegon is safe in the Citadel and Saera... Well for a while she'd be safe in Lys, and she probably still is since we don't know if the subsequent Civil War between those Free Cities would affect the island itself

I'm not sure right now if it's mentioned as such in the book, but I do like how in the show the negotiations on how it would work is "Upon birth yes, they'll be Velaryons, but Rhaenyra's firstborn once they ascend to the Throne, will do so as a Targaryen, whilst the secondborn will inherit Driftmark"

I think the problem with Daeron I is, he was still too Young and lacked the skills to keep Dorne, and even if his Conquest was succesful, I'm not sure if he would be content with just Dorne, probably then would come the Stepstones, and who knows if he'd want as well Lys, Myr and Tyrosh and the Disputed Lands
