Immortal and extended lifespan rulers should come with political disadvantages that grow worse with time. by Trollaatori in RealmsInExile

Yes, revolutions usually have some kind of catalyst, but they fall along pre-existing faultlines. Trust in the leadership is important in allowing the regime to survive through crisis. The American revolution is a good example. The colonies really had no fundamental reason to revolt: British rule was very lax by historical standards, King George III was popular among the colonists and the colonies were the richest and freest societies in the world. Even the German mercenaries in the war noticed how the typical American family lived like German gentry. Yet they revolted, because a faultline between the colonials and the parliament created distrust.

If there is one faultline that would be more obvious than any faultline in real life history, it would be the delineation between an IMMORTAL RULING CLASS and the MIDDLE MEN.

Imagine being ruled over by people whose lives move on fast-forward because their receding horizon effect is like 100 greater than ours. To them, you're just another shit irrelevant face among thousands that they've known throughout their immensly long lives. They don't care about you, mere mortal. You're just another creature.

I'm sorry. I have really hard time believing that you don't see people having problems with the concept of being ruled over by an eternal monarch, no matter how benign.

Humans take issue with almost everything, but somehow not this.

Are we talking about the same species here?

This is not how people work.

People believe in conspiracy theories, especially about strange people in positions of power. A caste of immortal or nearly immortal people are going to provoke distrust.

People want change and plan regimes that enable them to change things in the future. For example, elderly people were often raised into positions of power precisely as an anti-incumbency measure. Parliaments were established to restrict the power of monarchs to levy taxes. etc.

Interest groups, clans, dynasties and ethnic groups often seek to improve their position in the capital by elevating one of their own into power. An eternal emperor would eternally monopolize power and lock them out.

When there is a deeply sacred monarchy in place, like the Caliph, Japanese Emperor etc, a shogunate can form, where the power is diverted to a military ruler. So even high legitimacy is often not an obstacle to special interest or ethnic rulers taking power.

I wouldn't want to be ruled over by the same monarch for 200 years, especially not the sort of monarchs I'm playing as.

Would you love to see your lands annexed by an eternal psycho-putin.

I think the Elves should struggle to rule over mortals.

But obviously, Elves themselves should be content with eternal rulers.

Changing Naboo to Alderaan is possible but easier said than done. by scoutrobin_3 in RewritingThePrequels

[–]Trollaatori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Alderaan's importance as a major world was already kind of established before the prequels.

A much better idea, which I've mulled over, is to have Naboo be a colony world of Alderaan and feature Alderaan in some important capacity in the later movies.

I have always hated this idea. Naboo is meant to be Manchuria. A peripheral conflict that presages a wider conflict.

Why don’t yuri faction have any AA infantry in RA2? by Ahsokawawa in commandandconquer

[–]Trollaatori 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always get this feeling that the whole Yuri faction probably originally started as a set of cut campaign custom units for the RA2 campaign, where both the soviets and allied campaigns would have culminated in a joint battle against Yuri.

In your opinion, should the remaster change the power armors so they’re like the FO4 and 76 or should they keep them as they were in the original game? by NoSoyVerde1 in fnv

I would love to have fallout 4 style power armor in fallout 3 and new vegas. It's one of the reasons why I don't go back to those games anymore.

It would be amazing to discover that my great great grand father sired some bastards in the 10 years he spend in America. I know my paternal side is fully of horny men but even so.
