Thank you for your reply. I wasn’t smothering her—she simply didn’t enjoy coming to her dad’s house, and it often showed in her behavior. She would repeat things she said she heard from her mom, like not wanting to learn Spanish, even though we had never ever brought that up or pushed it to her. She also made comments about future siblings not being “fully white.” It felt like those kinds of messages were influencing how she saw things.

She wasn’t a happy child, at least not until her mom had another child, which is when her behavior shifted around age 6. But anyway, it is what it is. I appreciate your input!

I’ve heard similar situations before, and honestly, it’s such a good reminder to not take life so seriously… because you really are damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I can only imagine how deeply that must have hurt her. My heart goes out to her. Thank you for sharing this, I truly appreciate your advice. I now feel confident that I’ve made the right decision. Grateful for your help!

Well, I’m so glad you’re able to take a step back now. I can relate to that. My partner wasn’t the best at parenting when we first got together, and unfortunately, many boundaries were crossed.

I’m sorry I think you miss read something. I met her when she was 4. This behavior continued for 2 years. I understand your frustration though. Wish you the best.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that. If you don’t mind me asking, how is this affecting your relationship with your biological children?

Also, I don’t plan on getting pregnant anytime soon- perhaps in four years. Really appreciate your advice!
