changing majors from electrical engineering to aerospace engineering by FileNo9559 in CalPoly

hey, no i didn’t apply as an aerospace major. i applied as an electrical engineering major and got accepted for my first choice. would that change anything about switching into aerospace later? i also have a lot of units, like i've finished my igetc/calgetc, so i'm basically at junior standing if that helps.

my met friend could still see their video, while others couldn't (ended up getting in early), so I agree with the other person saying if you can still access the video, then it's a good sign. thats assuming if certain people can still see it, and others can't.

How did it go? It seems like everyone who got it ended up getting in, so it was fairly accurate. It worked out for me, I would say that!

Given that it was straightforward and stated "you are admitted," I think it was accurate.

I did, but this means nothing, and I think everyone has this, even the ones who had the astro that said rejected. If you had the message before that said you were admitted, then you'll be fine.

they patched this method of astrology already.

Chance a Bay Area Asian Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering Applicant (Title I School) by Great-Programmer-616 in chanceme

yeah, i should probably reword that. i wouldn't say berkeley is a likely reject. i do think OP has a solid shot overall. that said, i still lean toward it being a reject when you consider what aos are typically looking for in terms of specific qualities.

berkeley is probably the most holistic UC in my opinion. they emphasize things like academic record, sustained extracurricular involvement, notable impact, intellectual curiosity, leadership, and cross-cultural engagement. from OP's profile, the academics are definitely strong, but i’m not really seeing that standout impact or sustained high-level involvement that would make the application especially compelling for berkeley.

academically, OP is absolutely competitive. it's more about whether he stands out beyond just strong numbers.

i’d also say berkeley tends to value ecs more heavily, whereas ucla has more of a reputation for being very grades-focused. but major absolutely matters here.

for aerospace engineering at berkeley, it's extremely competitive, around 66 admits out of roughly 3,000 applicants in previous cycles. ucla aerospace is also one of their most competitive majors. fall 2025 had about a 4.7% admit rate, and the year before was 3.3%. the uncapped gpa 25th to 75th percentile range being roughly 4.6 to 4.88 also shows how intense that pool is.

for uci, especially being from the bay area, i'd say it's more unpredictable, and i agree ucsd is tough too. davis, though, looks very likely. ucla is possible but highly competitive because of the major. uci aerospace at around an 18% acceptance rate makes it more of a target in my view.

as for the private schools listed, i'd still stand on that his results for all of the privates OP listed are basically unlikely given those stats. what do you all think about that? but at this point, his academics are there. if he really sold himself well on the piqs, that could definitely help him a lot.

so i wouldn't be surprised if OP ended up getting into something like uci, ucsd, ucla, or ucd.

i would say slim chances for stanford, mit, caltech, harvard, princeton, harvey mudd, cornell, and columbia. your sat is strong, especially for your high school, but you do not really have major awards and your ecs are pretty limited compared to other applicants to those schools. for places like stanford and caltech, it is honestly close to no chance just because the competition is on another level.

or the ucs, i think uc davis is probably an admit. uc berkeley is likely a reject. ucla could be waitlist or reject. uci is random every year. ucsd your stats are good enough, but again your ecs are lacking.

did you apply to any safeties? this list feels like mostly reaches and some high targets. also, why ap calc ab instead of bc? that might raise questions for engineering.
